Predator: Badlands is out and viewers have been enjoying it.
This science-fiction action flick is the 9th entry in the Predator franchise and one of the first to have the titular character as a protagonist. This Dan Trachtenberg-directed film premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre and was released theatrically on November 7, 2025.
Here's the official synopsis as per IMDb:
"A young Predator outcast from his clan finds an unlikely ally on his journey in search of the ultimate adversary."
The film features a post-credit scene that hints at a potential sequel. Let's explore that in detail.
Does Predator: Badlands lay the ground for a potential sequel?
Towards the end of Predator: Badlands, Dek fights with Tessa, but is on the verge of defeat. This changes when Kalisk swallows Tessa as a whole. The latter detonates a bomb inside the stomach, which kills both of them. By this point, Dek has realized the mindlessness of chasing Kalisk. He heads back to his home planet of Yautja Prime to meet his father, who had killed his brother. The two face off and get into a battle, which ends with Dek eliminating his own father.
There is a big chance for him to grab the head of the clan, but he refuses to do that. Instead, Dek introduces Bud and Thia as part of their clan. This is where the credits roll, and subsequently, a post-credit scene appears, which shows the trio looking at a Predator ship. When Thia asks who owns this ship, Dek reveals it's his mother's. This pretty much establishes that the makers are hinting at a possible sequel for the film where Dek's mother would have a bigger involvement in the story.
While the first few installments in the franchise had definite endings, things started to change with the 2010 film Predators. Since then, there has been a tendency for these films to hint at a sequel and then disappoint audiences.
For example, Prey ends by showing the Yautja make a comeback to wreak havoc on the tribe. But nothing has happened since the film came out. So there's a chance that the cliffhanger of Predator: Badlands can remain unsolved forever. Everything depends on an official announcement from the makers regarding a sequel. Till then, fans will have to wait.
