According to newly filed court records, Taylor Swift has formally consented to testify in the ongoing lawsuit between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. Although her evidence is subject to the court allowing an extension to accommodate her busy work schedule, the 35-year-old singer will be deposed during the week of October 20-25, 2025. Swift's staff claimed she is not accessible for questioning before the October 3 release of her much-awaited album, The Life of a Showgirl.
Swift's name was initially mentioned in court filings earlier this year when 41-year-old Baldoni suggested that Lively used her celebrity connections, including those with Swift and her husband Ryan Reynolds, to sway artistic choices for the 2024 movie It Ends With Us. Swift's manager promptly refuted the allegation, emphasizing that Swift's sole involvement in the production was permitting the use of her song "My Tears Ricochet":
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history.”
The representative continued that publishing Swift's name in court documents was "tabloid clickbait" and denounced the subpoena as an effort to create headlines.:
“The connection Taylor had to this film was permitting the use of one song, ‘My Tears Ricochet.’ Given that her involvement was licensing a song for the film, which 19 other artists also did, this document subpoena is designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.”
Blake Lively's representative also released a statement:
“The [Baldoni] team have tried to put Taylor Swift, a woman who has been an inspiration for tens of millions across the globe, at the center of this case since day one.”
Blake Lively's lawsuit against Justin Baldoni
Since December 2024, when Blake Lively filed a complaint alleging that her It Ends With Us co-star and director of sexual harassment, creating a hostile work environment, and retaliating against her when she voiced concerns, the legal dispute between Lively and Justin Baldoni has been intensifying. Additionally, she said that Baldoni hired a crisis PR agency to try to damage her image in an effort to discredit her.
In January 2025, Baldoni responded by bringing a $400 million countersuit against Lively, alleging breach of contract, extortion, and slander. Her public remarks and purported unwillingness to promote the film, according to his team, damaged his career and broke contracts related to the film's distribution.
Judge Lewis J. Liman, however, rejected Baldoni's countersuit in June 2025, concluding that Lively's allegations were part of the legal process. Additionally, he dismissed Baldoni's argument that her alleged refusal to promote the movie amounted to extortion, which severely undermined his case.
Swift and Taylor Swift's long friendship
Because of her ten-year acquaintance with Lively, Taylor Swift's role in the case has garnered additional attention. The two connected in 2015, and over the years, the two have become really close. Swift also became the godmother of one of Lively and Ryan Reynolds' children. Their families frequently got together, supporting one another on social media and going to each other's celebrations.
However, sources indicate that the legal turmoil has put strain on their relationship. Reports claim that Lively failed to publicly acknowledge Taylor Swift's engagement to NFL player Travis Kelce earlier in 2025. According to the insiders, Swift is in an awkward situation as she is now dragged into a high-profile court case because of her personal allegiance to Lively and her team's assurance that she was not involved in the film.
A source said “[she] isn’t going to,” as Lively has “bigger fish to fry.”
