White Lotus star Lisa is drawing the ire of the internet for her Met Gala outfit.
On May 5, the K-pop star showed up on the red carpet in custom Louis Vuitton. She sported a black blazer pulled over an embroidered bodysuit. From afar, there was nothing dubious about it, but upon closer inspection, faces embroidered into the lace bodysuit were visible. It was not long before the internet began speculating that the faces resembled civil rights activist Rosa Parks.
The outfit was designed by Pharrell Williams for Louis Vuitton, but Vogue has reported that it was artist Henry Taylor who embroidered the portraits into her lingerie. Taylor was previously commissioned by Williams, who serves as the fashion house's men’s creative director and 2025 Met Gala co-chair, to embroider the same faces for the brand's Men's Spring-Summer 2024 show.
A statement from LV claims that the lace features "portraits of figures who have been a part of the artist’s life.” However, it did not elucidate whether there were any famous faces in the picture.
Everything we know about Lisa's controversial outfit at this year's Met Gala
According to The Cut, Lisa, 28, sported a Louis Vuitton lace bodysuit with an embroidered jacket to go over it. She accessorized with LV logo tights and a monogrammed handbag. The Blackpink member's outfit was a nod to the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme, celebrating Black dandyism, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City this year. Monica L. Miller's 2009 book, "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity," was the inspiration for the 2025 Met Gala dress code.
Fans were quick to slam the singer, with many pointing out that her choice of wardrobe comes weeks after a resurfaced clip of Lisa and fellow Blackpink members Jennie and Rosé reportedly using a racial slur onstage, back when they weren't as famous.
“Rosa Parks on your underwear less than 3 months after a compilation of you saying the N word goes viral is kinda crazy but maybe thats just me!” one X user commented.
None of the musicians have acknowledged or apologized for the alleged debacle, fueling intense outrage online.
As for Lisa, she has yet to respond to the latest wave of backlash, and the phrase “Rosa Parks underwear” had already begun trending on X by the time the gala was nearing its end.
In other news, the White Lotus season 3 cast member has confirmed that new music from the band is on the way. She told Variety recently that the band has been spending time in the studio, and they're "all so super excited to get back together and go on tour. We really miss the blinks. We can’t wait to see them.”
