The reimagining of the classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) is already seeing a decline in its opening box office predictions, as one Hollywood research firm pointed out recently. The news comes via The Hollywood Reporter, where the latest numbers could strike as disappointing to some.
Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot are the titular characters of Snow White and the Evil Queen, respectively, and they are joined by Andrew Burnap, Ansu Kabia, Dujonna Gift, and more. The film has an estimated budget of somewhere between $240–$270 million, and going by the rule of thumb, the film needs to earn just the double to sniff the profit.
Snow White is already surrounded by a fair few controversies and now this
The Hollywood Reporter didn't reveal the Hollywood research firm's name but their story mentions that new tracking numbers range from between $48–$58 million, with $53 million being the target for the opening weekend. That's down from the $63–$70 million that Quorum predicted earlier.
It comes amid the ongoing controversies surrounding the film where Rachel Zegler drew criticism for being cast for the role, though she did respond to it on her X handle by writing,
"extremely appreciative of the love i feel from those defending me online, but please don’t tag me in the nonsensical discourse about my casting."
She also hinted at a complete overhaul of the story and called the original one "extremely dated," which attracted criticism. Given that it is a reimagining, the Seven Dwarfs are likely to be presented as some sort of magical creatures in the film.
All of it will be clear when the film hits theaters, which is scheduled for a release on March 21, 2025.
Going by the recent Disney releases, Captain America: Brave New World has garnered $294 million against its $180 million budget, though reports suggest that the production budget reached $300 million and the film might need $600 million in revenue to at least see some profits.
Moana 2 has become a commercial success already, garnering around $690 million against its $150–$175 million budget. The same goes with Mufasa: The Lion King, which is roaring with $700 million at the box office against a $200 million budget.
