Djimon Hounsou is now a part of Henry Cavill's Highlander reboot; reunites with Gladiator star Russell Crowe

The Highlander remake has been under development for quite some time. The film stars Henry Cavill and serves as a reboot of the original 1986 fantasy classic of the same name. Cavill will be playing the role of Connor MacLeod. The film is being directed by Chad Stahelski, who is known for helming the John Wick franchise.

Earlier, it was announced that Russell Crowe has also joined the cast. The cast of the film continues to expand as the makers have also recently revealed that Djimon Hounsou. Let's find out more details about this piece of news that might excite fans.


Djimon Hounsou joins the cast of the Highlander reboot

Djimon Hounsou has joined the cast of the forthcoming film Highlander. He will be playing the role of an African warrior who is immortal. His character name is yet to be revealed.

The film stars Henry Cavill as the protagonist, Connor MacLeod. Besides him, the film will also feature Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Dave Bautista, and Karen Gillan. Hounsou has collaborated with Gillan and Bautista in Guardians of the Galaxy. This will also be the second collab between him and his Gladiator star Crowe.

The Highlander reboot is backed by the United Artists banner, which is owned by Amazon's MGM Studios. It's directed by Chad Stahelski, who has helmed the John Wick films, while Michael Finch is the writer. The film will feature a Scottish Highlander who finds out that he is actually an immortal warrior. He takes the aid of his accomplice, Ramirez, to fight the immortals. The shooting is expected to begin at the cusp of September.

The film is produced by Nick Nesbitt, Neal H. Moritz, Josh Davis, Louise Rosner, and Scott Stuber. The production banners include United Artists, 87Eleven Entertainment, and Davis Panzer Productions.

In a May interview with Collider, Chad Stahelski revealed that the shoot will start in September this year.

“If everything works out in the next 24 hours, we'll be shooting sometime in September. And in 2027 or 2028, you’ll be watching Highlander.”

The first film in the series was directed by Russell Mulcahy and was released in 1986. It starred Roxanne Hart and Christopher Lambert.
