Elle Fanning shares her views on navigating complex family dynamics
In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Elle Fanning opened up about navigating complex family dynamics while promoting her film Sentimental Value in Los Angeles.
The Joachim Trier-directed drama explores themes of estranged families, generational trauma, and the potential for partial healing through art. Fanning reflected on how these elements resonated with her in real life. She told the outlet:
“It's kind of the beauty of this film, the universal themes that people are relating to, and it is about this family that is broken and the traumas that are passed down through families that sometimes you don't realize, but we all have them. There's a kind of healing power of art. I don't know if something can be completely healed all the way.”
Fanning added:
“It doesn't tie everything up into a perfect bow, but it maybe will open the door for understanding and forgiveness, and so that's the beauty of it for me.”

Besides Sentimental Value, the Maleficent actress is all set to star alongside her sister Dakota Fanning in The Nightingale, the film adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s novel. They will co-star as sisters Isabelle and Vianne. The film is scheduled for release in 2027.
In an interview with E! News, Dakota spoke about starring alongside her sister and whether it will affect their bond. She said:
“We have a very playful relationship, but we're not competitive. We were never competitive growing up. We have really different personalities too, so I think that's also helpful. We like different things.”
The War of the Worlds actress then added that she “feels fortunate to have a sister” who “fully understands every aspect of my life brings a sense of calm that I don't even know that I have a full understanding of..”
The Nightingale will be the first film in which the Fanning sisters share the screen. Fanning previously played the younger version of Dakota’s character in I Am Sam, but they did not share any scenes.
Elle Fanning is the younger sister of Dakota Fanning, born four years apart from each other to Steven J. Fanning and Heather Joy (née Arrington). The sisters were raised in Conyers, Georgia, before moving to Los Angeles for their acting careers.
