Actor Jesse Williams recently moved the court over his children’s healthcare custody. In March 2025, the actor was allowed sole legal custody for his children’s healthcare needs.

However, according to Us Weekly, the actor claimed that his ex-wife Aryn Drake-Lee had violated his right. The court documents mentioned that Drake-Lee had allegedly threatened their daughter, Sadie’s, orthodontist. According to a statement:

“During our meeting with the children’s orthodontist when we were to discuss, among other things, the doctor’s game plan for treating Sadie’s impacted upper right canine tooth and the growing cyst around her tooth.”

It went on:

“Aryn aggressively told the doctor she does not consent to treatment and that she will SUE the doctor if he touches the children. The orthodontist promptly asked us to leave.”

Us Weekly further started that Williams stated that their daughter had been awaiting dental treatment since August last year, but Drake-Lee had allegedly continued to deny permission for it. Williams was of the opinion that delaying the procedure could pose risks.

Hence, the actor fixed an appointment with the orthodontist and asked Aryn Drake-Lee to accompany as per the court’s instructions. However, after the incident, Jesse Williams reportedly apologised to the doctor and left the place.

Williams reportedly filed an emergency motion to allow him to get medical treatment for their children without having to keep Drake-Lee in the loop. He also wants her to be blocked from contacting or getting involved with their doctors.

Jesse Williams asked for a quicker ruling before their next court date in July 2025 because he was concerned about his daughter’s health. According to the filing, Sadie had expressed confusion and frustration, reportedly asking what was wrong with her mother.

Jesse Williams sought equal custody time last year

According to In Touch Weekly, on May 6, 2025, a court hearing took place where Drake-Lee was asked not to meddle with the children’s medical needs. The judge asked Williams to proceed with the doctor's treatment plan. Jesse Williams’ statement to the court was:

“I will be unable to obtain healthcare for the children… unless this Court makes Ex Parte orders preventing Aryn from interfering with the children’s healthcare.”

He went on:

“Given Aryn’s conduct, I will be unable to obtain any healthcare treatment for the children, including necessary dental and orthodontic treatment for Sadie (and for Maceo who needs braces), unless Aryn agrees which is entirely contrary to the Court’s order that I shall have sole legal custody.”

In his statement to the judge last year, Jesse Williams said he shared a strong and loving bond with his children and believed there was no valid reason for Aryn to have extended custody time over him. He explained that his kids often asked to stay with him longer and frequently wanted to know how many days they would be together.

He also shared that he had moved merely 15 minutes away from Aryn to make custody exchanges easier, but felt the frequent transitions were still hard on the kids and led to more unnecessary contact between him and Aryn.
