In great news for action fans, Road House 2 is officially in the pipeline with Guy Ritchie set to direct the highly anticipated sequel. The announcement comes just a year after Jake Gyllenhaal’s remake of the 1989 cult classic Road House premiered on Amazon Prime Video.
The adventure/action film was positively received by not only diehard action fans but also Gyllenhaal's and the original film's followers. Road House attracted over 80 million views worldwide in just a few months on the streaming service, demonstrating Gyllenhaal's success as an ex-UFC fighter turned Dalton in rebooting the cult classic.
Plot specifics for the sequel, which Will Beall is penning, are being kept secret for now, but more details can be expected as the film progresses. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment, as well as Gyllenhaal for his Nine Stories Productions alongside Josh McLaughlin, are producers for the film, along with Ivan Atkinson as executive producer.
Amazon MGM considered the film a success, and during its first Upfronts presentation last summer, the studio said a sequel was in the works. The movie set records for the streaming service when it debuted on Prime Video in March of last year. In its first eight weeks, it drew up to 80 million viewers globally, making it the studio's most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis.
Surely, the sequel too would be a hit among fans, considering Ritchie's masterpieces and Gyllenhaal's stunning performances in the past.
More details on Road House 2
Jake Gyllenhaal will reprise the character of Dalton, who will be in new territory in the Florida Keys, having previously worked as a bouncer in the original film. Reportedly, the plot will kick off exactly where the film left off, allowing for a deeper exploration of Dalton's character's backstories and exploring his complicated history, mixed with a chaotic present. Fans are giddy with anticipation over how the sequel will expand the universe of the franchise, with new characters, intense confrontations, and action-packed production.
With Guy Ritchie taking the reins of Road House 2, he will continue his well-established jam on dynamic character-driven action films. Ritchie has established a brand on giving audiences what they have come to appreciate, a swirling, visceral, and stylized way of making gritty dramatic action fun, compelling, and satisfying. His pedigree, he built over the years with breakout films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and The Gentleman, proves his ability to make energized, stylized action films that audiences clearly embrace.
Ritchie's two recent collaborations with Gyllenhaal on The Covenant and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre have proven to be extraordinary successes, allowing Ritchie to demonstrate his distinctive rhythms alongside Gyllenhaal's own distinctive style pattern.
This bodes well for a masterful combination of tough-guy drama and spirited fun in Road House 2; it makes Road House 2 seem much more impactful than the first film.
