Television's prolific bail bondsman, Dog the Bounty Hunter, heaves a sigh of relief. The bounty hunter's son, Garry Chapman, will return to the Alabama police force after being unanimously voted back by the city council.
The Princeville Police officer was terminated from his position following a high-speed car chase that ended with the death of a 17-year-old. Chapman was earlier placed on administrative leave but has since filed a $10 million wrongful termination suit against the department.
According to the New York Post, Dog the Bounty Hunter commended the police department for their decision and said to the city council,
“Garry is my youngest son of 13 children, and he always wanted to be a police officer. We understand what tragedy is also. But I would like to also commend this committee for giving my son a second chance.”
He further added,
“I’m known as a second chance guy and I appreciate every time and if any of you want me to, you know, stick up for you the next session, you want to be voted in, I will be here for you.”
Dog the Bounty Hunter testified at the Priceville City Country hearing, which eventually approved Chapman's return after a session that reportedly lasted two and a half hours.
What did Dog the Bounty Hunter's son do?
A corrections officer with Alabama's Priceville Police Department, Garry Chapman, was reportedly chasing an alleged suspect in Hartselle, Alabama, for a 'moving violation' and suspected DUI. However, as the chase progressed, the latter's car hit a vehicle from the oncoming traffic carrying four teenagers.
The incident left multiple civilians injured in its wake, including three passers-by. However, there was one teenager who succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 17-year-old young adult, Tristan Hollis, was the sole fatality. Other details of the case remain undisclosed.
The Cullman Daily community page on Facebook posted the following to its fans,
Suspect Alex Hale was released from the hospital and has since been charged by Hartselle City Police with reckless murder, drug possession, and a slew of traffic violations. Hale is currently held at Morgan County Jail without a bond.
Although cleared by the city council, the Priceville Police Department has maintained its position and believes Chapman should've reevaluated his decision and exercised caution in the chase that crossed city lines.
Interestingly, while Garry Chapman has leveled a $10 million unlawful termination charge against the department, this is a reprimand. Earlier, he was written up for a confrontation with another officer, and has exhibited a history of speeding. Garry is Dog the Bounty Hunter's thirteenth child.
