Doja Cat has distanced herself from rumors that Fortnite's "rose toys" are adult toys.
Doja Cat is teaming up with Epic Games to host Fortnite's annual Halloween event this year. Ahead of the festivities, the songstress slammed the game's official X account for pretending to be her with a tweet:
"Mother of rose toys," it read, paired with Doja's in-game face as its avatar.
However, as rumors that the tweet was a reference to sex toys grew louder, she took to X to clear the air:
"i told them not to man that's not even me. I said this yesterday and then said "don't post that" :/."
The drama involving Doja Cat and Fortnite explored:
In a string of tweets, one fan accused Doja Cat of lying that the tweet didn't come from her. However, she promptly dispelled the rumor by pointing out that there were kids reading those tweets. When another user asked her who "tweeted this if it's not" her, she said she didn't know.
In another post, Fortnite penned, seemingly as Doja Cat:
"One of my Fortnite skins is bald headed and that’s just something people are going to have to get used to."
The account also shared a selfie on Wednesday of Doja Cat alongside the caption that she had taken over the account.
"taking over x now sorry," the post read.
However, she doubled down on claims it wasn't her.
"sh*t cringe as f*ck[.] now I'm embarrassed," she penned, alongside an emoji of a wilted rose.
As of this writing, the official gaming account has changed its avatar on X, and the original post has been taken down. However, another tweet with a string of roses is currently still up.
Epic Games and Fortnite have yet to respond to her jibes, though internet sleuths speculate that it could just be the songstress after all, trolling the internet as she has been known to do in the past. Some rumors say the exchange could just be a promotion for the introduction of a new weapon called the Thorn Ripper, which is on par with the rose theme.
The debacle comes ahead of the debut of Doja's "Mother of Thorns" boss character on Fortnite on Thursday, October 9. The figure will headline this year’s Fortnitemares event, and will also feature another Icon Series skin, some more emotes, and Jam Tracks with her songs “Aaahh Men!” and “Gorgeous.”
