Emma Watson, known for playing Hermione Granger in the beloved Harry Potter movie franchise, is opening up about her equation with author J.K. Rowling.
Watson played one of the main characters of Rowling's eponymous novel series. However, in recent years, some of Rowling's tweets and comments regarding the transgender community have stirred controversy. Watson, along with former costars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, has criticized the author's remarks.
Their contradictory sentiments on the topic have long been said to have caused a rift between the British author and the actress. During a recent interview, Emma Watson opened up about the ups and downs in her relationship with the author. She said,
"I really don't believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, mean that I can't and don't treasure Jo [Rowling] and the person that I had personal experiences with. I will never believe that one negates the other and that my experience of that person, I don't get to keep and cherish. To come back to our earlier thing - I just don't think these things are either or. I think it's my deepest wish that I hope people who don't agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don't necessarily share the same opinion with."

Emma Watson talks about Harry Potter author JK Rowling
Harry Potter actress Emma Watson recently appeared on the podcast On Purpose With Jay Shetty, where she spoke about JK Rowling.
Watson said that a conversation between her and Rowling on the topic has not been made possible in recent years. When asked if she would like to talk to Rowling about their issues, she said:
"Yeah, and I always will. I believe in that. I believe in that completely."
In 2020, Rowling posted a tweet that was critical of the transgender community. Several people took to social media to criticize her. Watson had then issued a statement in solidarity with the transgender community. Soon, other Harry Potter cast members also followed suit, with Daniel Radcliffe issuing a statement that said,
'Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I.”
Rowling went on to say that these actors "ruin" the Harry Potter films for her.
