Shia LaBeouf, the actor who once won accolades and nominations like the Young Artist Award and the Daytime Emmy Award, eventually took a backseat from the Hollywood spotlight. The actor and filmmaker became prone to controversies and accusations, one of them being the lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs in 2020. Previously, he also accepted having issues with alcohol.

Shia LaBeouf recently shared that he is still close to Mel Gibson, an actor who helped him when he was down in life. He expressed gratitude, saying:

"He held my hand when I was really shi**ing on myself. Dude really stepped up for me in big ways," shared Shia.

He named Mel Gibson, Sean Penn, and Josh Brolin as key figures in his sobriety journey. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Disturbia actor shared that the three Hollwyood stars, helped him “get back on track” as he worked through personal struggles. He said:

"Him, Sean Penn, James Brolin — these guys got me to sobriety. They got around me and kept me alive. Sean also showed up and motivated me to do this as a play. I was scared as f**k when this thing started. He was there week one. Sam Rockwell came. There was a bunch of guys that I looked up to that just started popping up. I had never, ever felt that kind of love — not like that."

Lately David Mamet and Shia LaBeouf have joined hands for a new indie movie called Henry Johnson.

In Henry Johnson, Shia LaBeouf slips into the role of Gene, a smooth-talking, intellectually formidable convict who captivates the unsuspecting title character — a white-collar pushover played by Evan Jonigkeit, real-life husband to Zosia Mamet, the actress and daughter of David Mamet

As the interview unfolded, Shia LaBeouf was met with a personal inquiry: Could the role mark a sort of gateway to rehabilitation for him?

"I hope so. I hope my whole life is about that. I hope my whole life is squaring things, getting it right. It’s what I want to do with the rest of my life. And there’s a lot of things to get right. I’m blessed that I still have this craft and I’m still allowed to do it at a high level with the highest." he replied.

The actor added:

"It feels like a f**king miracle. It’s all part of the same thing — God’s everything or nothing. I believe that. Me and Dave have big God talks. I’ve been to temple with him. He’s been to church with me. Been deep dives for both of us."

David Mamet also shared his perspective:

"You can’t trust your mind. The mind is the serpent in the garden. The mind is evil and it has to be controlled. How do you control it? We try to do good. We do evil. So I’m getting a cup of tea in the morning and there’s the Torah sitting over there. And I say, “You know, I really should read the Torah.”

According to a report shared by Ladbible, after FKA Twigs filed the lawsuit, Shia LaBeouf, shared his grief and perspective.

"I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalisations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me,” shared the actor.

In 2022, Shia LaBeouf addressed his past behavior during an appearance on the Real Ones with Jon Bernthal podcast, speaking candidly about actions he described as harmful. Without naming his former partner, the actor stated:

"I hurt that woman. And in the process of doing that, I hurt many other people and many other people before that woman. I was a pleasure-seeking, selfish, self-centred, dishonest, inconsiderate, fearful human being."

Although LaBeouf publicly acknowledged wrongdoing in that interview, he has since formally denied all allegations brought against him in the s*xual battery lawsuit.
