"Engagement is really about love for oneself": Jaime King talks about her engagement and holding off wedding plans 

Jaime King is approaching engagement and love in a different way. The 46-year old actress recently revealed that the engagement with Austin Sosa is not only about love but also about self-love and development. She shared in an interview with Us Weekly what this new stage is to her and how she is busy concentrating on her family

King said that her engagement feels like a personal commitment.

“I feel like my engagement is to myself, in the best way,” she explained. “To me, an engagement is really about a love for oneself.”

For King, this time in her life is not just about planning a wedding but about appreciating her journey and the people around her.

The Hart of Dixie star, who has two sons with her former husband Kyle Newman, claimed that she is where she can rest. She went on to say that she is grateful to Sosa and the love and support she has gotten from his family.

Jaime King on meeting Austin Sosa and finding balance

Jaime King and Sosa met through mutual friends in December 2024. She recalled that she knew right away he would be important in her life.

“When I saw him, I was like, ‘You’re going to be my boyfriend,’” she said. “It seems so childish, but I just looked at him and thought, ‘That’s going to be my person.’”

She said what drew her to Sosa was his kindness and integrity.

“There’s just an integrity about him that is rare,” King shared. “Loving to me is not just some romantic thing. It’s seeing someone and knowing we’ll take care of each other.”

King also mentioned how well her children, James Knight and Leo Thames, connect with Sosa.

“The most important thing to me is my children’s happiness, health, and wellbeing,” she said.

Her sons, she explained, have a strong bond with Sosa, which makes her feel confident in their relationship as a family.

Jaime King focusing on family before wedding plans

Although Jaime King and Sosa are happily engaged, she is not rushing into wedding planning. Her focus right now is on her children and their daily lives.

“My main focus is them,” she said. “My focus is not necessarily planning some extravaganza. It’s chilling with them, enjoying my time with them.”

Jaime King said her sons know that a wedding will happen someday, but what matters most is their connection as a family.

“To me, every day is about being very present,” she explained. “The wedding, it’s honestly not the main thing in terms of a ceremony. It’s just a vow that’s extremely important, and [being] happy and enjoying our time together.”

For now, she wants to be there for her children as they grow.

“The most important thing in regards to time with them is just being present,” King said. “They need presence, and they need to be heard and seen.”

She added that being there for her sons through their changes and challenges means more to her than any event or plan.
