TW: This article contains mentions of rape, sexual assault and cannibalism.
Call Me By Your Name star Armie Hammer opened up about his hunting experience on the Louis Theroux Podcast in an episode released on February 11. The actor revealed that he once took a bite of an animal's heart.
"You don't eat the whole heart. One of the traditions is you take a bite out of the heart. You've got all your buddies around you, they're goading you on."
He then went on to explain the experience as an "almost overly-charged male rite of passage" saying,
"It's sort of like an almost overly-charged male rite of passage when you go hunting for the first tine. Everyone that I know who went hunting for their first time had to do something similar."
While the actor has been in the news earlier for his interest in cannibalism, Hammer mentioned that the hunting tradition was "not for the purpose of any cannibalism or any s**ual gratification."
Armie Hammer denies being a cannibal
During his appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, host Louis Theroux asked the actor if he was a cannibal. Theroux's question comes after leaked messages allegedly between Armie Hammer and his former partners went viral in 2021. The messages detailed disturbing and violent s*xual fantasies of the star, including cannibalism and r*pe.
When asked if he is a cannibal, Armie denied, saying,
"You know what you have to do to actually be a cannibal? You have to actually eat human flesh. So no."
Hammer had previously mentioned that all his relationships were consensual sadomasochistic arrangements. The actor mentioned that he was a bit of a "provocateur" and that he found it "fun" to "ruffle feathers" off his partners and "push the envelope little by little." However, he also said,
"Did I ever have any intention of cutting anything off of anyone or eating anything off of anyone? No. That was never really anything that I wanted. Was it fun to joke about if I was stoned or drunk or like laughing as I was typing these messages? Sure."
After a woman who self-identified as Effie accused Armie Hammer of r**e and physically abusive behavior in 2021, two other women came forward with accusations of s**ual coercion and emotional abuse from the actor between 2017 and 2020, including his ex-girlfriend Paige Lorenze. The allegations were also featured in the Discovery+ docuseries House of Hammer.
LA County authorities declined to pursue s**ual assault charges against the actor.
