Margot Robbie is joining the praise train for Owen Cooper's historic Emmy win as the Barbie actress is cheering for the young actor, who is set to star alongside her in the upcoming Wuthering Heights.
During a red carpet moment for her film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, Robbie spoke to Access Hollywood as she reacted to Cooper's Emmy win. Praising him as an actor, Robbie said,
“Incredible, I’m so proud of him…He’s extremely talented…he’s a lovely, super professional, brilliant actor.”
Back in March, Cooper had also shared his experience with This Morning, about working with the actress as he opened up on shooting for Wuthering Heights where he said,
"I see her all the time and I speak to her all the time, but I don’t really have any scenes with her..She’s really nice but filming wise, it’s fine, it’s just a lot different obviously but it’s going really well."
Both Owen Cooper and Margot Robbie would be seen next in the gothic psychological drama, based on Emily Brontë's 1847 novel. Robbie is leading as Catherine Earnshaw opposite Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, while Cooper is playing a younger version of Heathcliff.
More details about Owen Cooper's Emmy win
At the 2025 Emmys, Owen Cooper created history as he took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role as Jamie Miller in Adolescence. At fifteen, he is the youngest actor to receive this honor, and it's a feat that every star in Hollywood was talking about.
On stage, Cooper's acceptance speech was short, sweet and unshowy as he continued to thank his family, the cast and crew and leaned into gratitude for the team that helped him work on this career defining role. In parts of his speech he says,
"I think tonight proves if you listen, and you focus and you step out your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life. Who cares if you get embarrassed? Anything can be possible. I was nothing about three years ago, I'm here now...It may have my name on this award, but it really belongs to the people behind the camera."
Cooper's role on the show received much praise from fans and critics alike. Jamie is a quiet, fractured kid at the center of a brutal murder investigation, and his performance is all tension in restraint: Tiny gestures, adolescent rage a fitting portrayal of a toxic masculinity culture that has been a plague for young boys everywhere. Critics and fans called it one of the most incredible debuts of the year, much of the praise directed at a certain episode in the series where he lashes out at his psychiatrist. It's a role that's intense and thought provoking, and raises some serious questions about the society we live in. As a cherry-on-the-top, the show being shot in one single shot makes Owen Cooper's win all the more impressive.
Adolescence is now streaming on Netflix.
