Actor Ezra Miller shared candid details about working in Hollywood again in a recent interview. Their statement comes after they appeared at the Cannes Film Festival. In an exclusive interview with Lo Speciale Giornale on June 20, 2025, they were asked about their relationship with cinema. Miller replied:

“Tentative. I would say on tentative grounds. I came to Cannes to support one of my closest friends in the world, who is Lynne Ramsay, who I think is one of the greatest living filmmakers. I am working with her again. That will likely be the first thing I do is a film that her and I are writing together.”

The actor, who played Patrick in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, found themself in hot water on multiple occasions. In 2022, they were charged in Hawaii for an incident at a bar. They were also taken into custody the same year for allegedly causing physical harm to a person.

The actor was also accused of grooming a child, who was 12. Speaking about the incident, Ezra Miller said at that time:

“I have been unjustly and directly targeted by an individual who the facts have shown has a history of such manipulative and destructive action.”

Ezra Miller was allegedly accused of theft in August 2022, following which they served a one-year probation. They shared with Variety that they had experienced a personal crisis and came to realize they were dealing with complex mental health challenges.

They had started ongoing treatment and expressed regret for any distress their past actions may have caused. They also said they were dedicated to working on themselves to return to a healthier and more stable place in life.

Ezra Miller said they would do anything for Lynne Ramsay

During their conversation with Lo Speciale Giornale, Miller shared that they had been spending a lot of time writing, something they found comforting in solitude.

They explained that they went to Cannes because Lynne asked them to, even though they were hesitant. They said they valued loyalty to loved ones and close friends.

Attending the festival wasn’t easy for them, as it felt like a difficult way to return to public life after spending about three years in isolation. Ezra Miller described Cannes as overwhelming, filled with cameras and people they found unsettling. They said:

“But yeah, I did that for Lynne. Iowould do anything for Lynne you know what I mean. This is the stuff I can still know and keep a track on is like I ride for my friends that's always been true of me it always will be true for me.”

Ezra Miller reflected on how people often become focused on how they see themselves and how others see them. They believed it was more important to go beyond that and simply be a genuine friend.

They appreciated people who supported them during difficult times, saying those individuals had earned their lifelong loyalty. They also acknowledged that working in the entertainment industry often means being closely connected with people who don’t care about one’s well-being.

While Ezra Miller felt regret over their actions and the events of that period, they were thankful for the valuable lessons those experiences taught them.
