Spencer Pratt and his better half, Heidi Montag, were invited to the 2025 American Music Awards red carpet. However, netizens were polarized over Heidi’s hairstyle choice for the event. Heidi wore a blonde wig that was cut into a bob, a look that received a lot of backlash on social media. Spencer Pratt took the term knight in shining armour, seriously this time.

Pratt defended his wife’s choice, after one commenter suggested Pratt “should’ve stopped” Heidi Montag from wearing the hairpiece. On May 27, Pratt posted a TikTok defending the look and encouraged fans to support Montag’s forthcoming album, Heidiwood, scheduled for release on May 30.

“If you love her buy Heidiwood album so she can afford better wigs in the future, fancy wigs cost like 20k ask Beyoncé,” he captioned the post.

He later expanded on the issue in another TikTok, explaining:

“A really nice wig is $20,000, we don't have a $20,000 wig budget, so it's a cute little wig for the money that we can afford for a wig.”

While opinions regarding the wig continued to differ online, Spencer Pratt welcomed the attention.

“A lot of people loved the wig, a lot of people didn't love it so much, but you know what? We're very thankful to be at the American Music Awards and having anyone talking about Heidi's hair.” he shared.

Heidi explained her look in a report shared by ET.

“We just thought switch it up a little bit and um, keep it fresh. I’ve never done this so it’s very exciting and just a moment.”

Pratt Gets real about finances post LA Fires:

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag have been transparent regarding their money matters. The couple faced a major setback financially due to the LA fires. Their Pacific Palisades home was destroyed in the Los Angeles wildfires, right as they were preparing to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Montag’s album Superficial.

The reality show couple tied the knot in 2009 and now share two children, Gunner and Ryker. Spencer Pratt has been open about the rebuilding and financial challenges.

In an interview with Variety, Pratt recounted the strange timing of the album's re-release:

“It’s just the weirdest, craziest time, when everything was going on, I saw an email pop up that the album was going live, and I was like, ‘Oh, my God.’ I just made a TikTok reminding people to stream. I was looking for anything income-wise.”
“I know people are like, ‘You’re rich, you will be fine.’ Yeah, I wish. Everything in our house was paid for by Heidi and I hustling any way we could, everything we have worked for was in this house… we are starting at zero now.” he added.

Since the incident, Pratt and Montag have received support from fans and public figures, many of whom are urging the pair to document their experience on a reality series.

“I wish we’d already started filming because it’s so raw and so real. We’re connected to so many people whose stories aren’t getting heard, and all the small businesses that we’re part of. It’d be such a great opportunity to document it, we’re already doing it on social media, so I’d like to let my thumb have a rest and have a bigger camera doing it while I deal with emails and things coming in.” shared Spencer Pratt.

Pratt initially mentioned Hulu as a possible partner but said he remained open to meetings with any producer interested in following their journey to rebuild.
