The chill of anticipation just got colder as the first official synopsis for Frozen 3 has been revealed. Courtesy of a licensing event, plot details for the third film in the trilogy have reached fans, and the details are giving away an interesting story that the franchise will now explore.
The Greater China Region in Shanghai recently hosted Disney's Consumer Products Division Launch Conference, during which Frozen 3 had licensing products on display that came with the film's synopsis, which read,
“In this new chapter, witness the wedding of the century in Arendelle as Queen Anna walks down the aisle and joins Elsa on a new magical journey filled with unknown challenges. And what’s even more exciting: the royal family is about to welcome a mysterious new member!”
It does sound like an exciting plot, as Anna and Kristoff's romance has been a pivotal plot point of the franchise since its debut over a decade ago. The mysterious new member of the royal family sounds like a surprise and will most likely be the focus of the third film.
No confirmation has come from the studio as of now regarding Frozen 3's plot and details. More information is awaited for now.
More details about Frozen 3
Walt Disney Animation Studios is bringing our favorite ice queens back on screen as Frozen 3 is set to hit theaters in 2027. Written and directed by Jennifer Lee, the film will again bring in Idina Menzel as Elsa and Kristen Bell as Queen Anna. Along with the two leads, Josh Gad is expected to reprise his role as the loving snowman Olaf, although confirmation about the other leads is awaited for now.
The project was first announced by Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, who released a statement about the sequel during a February 2023 earnings call, and buzz immediately followed. Soon after, Gad confirmed his return as Olaf.
Lee initially hinted that she would not be working on the film again, but after some back and forth, she finally stepped back in. Fans got their first peek at the film during the D23 Expo in 2024, when the director revealed striking concept art for Frozen 3 that featured Elsa riding a white horse and Anna on a brown stag.
Frozen 3 will arrive in theaters on November 24, 2027, perfectly timed for Thanksgiving weekend. The long gap after Frozen II in 2019 shows Disney is in no rush, likely aiming for the kind of spectacle that once again dominates the box office. And expectations are sky-high, as the original Frozen earned $1.27 billion, while its sequel surpassed it with $1.45 billion, making the franchise one of Disney’s most lucrative.
