The first teaser for The Carpenter’s Son has arrived, and it’s every bit as unsettling as you’d expect from a Nicolas Cage biblical horror. The actor steps into a world where biblical myth collides with feverish horror, playing a figure cloaked in dread and mystery. Directed by Lotfy Nathan, the film reimagines the childhood of Jesus in a darker, different light with elements of horror in it.
Loosely inspired by the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, the story's darker themes have captivated the audience's attention who are now looking forward to the fall release. Inspired by the apocryphal, The Carpenter’s Son follows a mysterious family in Roman Egypt. Nicolas Cage stars as the Carpenter, a father determined to keep his wife, played by FKA Twigs and son hidden from forces that threaten them.
But the son, portrayed by Noah Jupe, and known only as the Boy, begins questioning his parents’ teachings after an encounter with another child. Soon, his preternatural powers manifest in terrifying ways, unleashing horrors of both divine and mortal origin.
The teaser, running less than thirty seconds, offers only a piece of what’s to come, Cage’s Carpenter silhouetted against a rising sun, watching his son from a distance. It’s enough to suggest the central conflict: a father struggling to protect his family while facing a child whose abilities and doubts could unravel everything. The cryptic nature of the teaser mirrors Nathan’s vision for the film: an atmospheric tale that leans more on tension and unease than spectacle.
More details about The Carpenter’s Son
The supporting cast for The Carpenter’s Son includes Souheila Yacoub, Penelope Markopoulou, Kaiti Manolidaki, and Erato Tziveleki, with Tomer Lev Tov lending his voice as a spectral angel. Production itself wasn’t without drama, as during filming in Megara, Greece, Cage was attacked by a swarm of bees inhabiting one of the caves intended as a shooting location, forcing the team to pivot mid-production.
The official synopsis of the film reads:
"The Carpenter’s Son tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. The son, known only as 'the Boy,' is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors, natural and divine."
Magnolia Pictures, which acquired The Carpenter’s Son in May 2025, has described Nathan’s work as “a genre-bending spectacle that defies expectations.” International distribution will be done by Le Pacte in France and Altitude in the UK. Although no release date has been mentioned as of yet, the production house has announced that the movie will release this fall in 2025.
With its haunting premise, enigmatic teaser, and the promise of Cage channeling both paternal devotion and primal terror, The Carpenter’s Son looks set to be one of the year’s most unsettling cinematic experiences.
