President Donald Trump has announced his plans to posthumously reward Charlie Kirk with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The conservative commentator was most known for being a close confidante of the president. He was shot dead on Wednesday, while hosting an event at Utah Valley University. The president confirmed his demise in a post on Truth Social.
"Charlie was a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty and an inspiration to millions and millions of people," Trump said on Thursday. "We miss him greatly, yet I have no doubt that Charlie's voice and courage put into the hearts of countless people, especially young people, will live on," the president continued.
Per ABC News, the Presidential Medal of Freedom is the most honorable civilian award in the nation. The president said that the date of the ceremony had yet to be announced, as he pointed out that it would likely draw in swarms of spectators.
News of the same has since broken out on X, with many slamming the president for his decision. Here's how one user reacted, for instance:
"For what?"
The comments didn't end there:
"for what exactly? For his revolutionary work for being a racist, misogynist, anti abortion, xenophobic, homophobic piece of crap?" one user questioned.
"For what? All he did was spew hate racism islamophobia deny a genocide etc so i’m just like genuinely confused," another echoed.
