British professional boxer Ricky Hatton’s dead body was recovered from his place in Greater Manchester on September 14.

An inquest, which was initiated into the matter, learnt that the boxer died by suicide. According to the BBC, Alison Mutch, senior coroner, mentioned that the final cause of death is yet to be ascertained. Nevertheless, the cause shows hanging to be the reason.

Meanwhile, speaking to Good Morning Britain, his son, Campbell Hatton, said that seeing his father deal with everything gave him confidence. He said Ricky Hatton had been open about discussing mental health, and he also wished to do the same. Campbell said:

“It’s just about passing that message on now because as much as my dad spoke openly about his mental health, there’s still a lot that don’t.”

This wasn’t the first time Campbell opened up about his father’s death. In an interview with sports correspondent Mike Hall earlier this month, Campbell said that his family was heartbroken. He said:

“It’s so unexpected and there's so many like big plans coming up. So, it has it's knocked us off for six, but obviously we're just trying to be there for each other at the minute and obviously the outpour of support from absolutely everyone's been amazing. So, that's helping us through a lot. But yes, absolutely heartbroken.”

When asked about his relationship with Ricky Hatton, Campbell said his father often called him “mini me” because they were so much alike. He shared that their closeness and the fun they had together showed how strong their bond was.

Campbell also said he was proud of his father’s accomplishments. He often saw clips from Ricky Hatton’s old matches on social media, mostly the ones that people from this generation haven’t seen. While it is heartbreaking, Campbell said it brought a smile to their faces.

He said that he had been a big Manchester City fan since birth because he didn’t have a choice. The team made a banner and flag to honor his dad, which deeply touched the whole family.

Campbell also said they were huge Oasis fans, and the tribute from Noel and Liam Gallagher made everything even more special. The love and support they received from everyone felt unbelievable to him. Reflecting on the tributes for Ricky Hatton, he said:

“There was a balloon release at the gym where there was hundreds there.”

He said everyone has been sticking with each other, but the support his family received gave them comfort. Mike Hall asked what it would mean for his family to see the streets filled with people. Campbell said:

“Yeah, that's exactly what he'd have wanted. His biggest achievement in boxing as his fan base and that's what he was the most proud of with it. So, what he'd want would be the streets filled of people there celebrating his life and showing respect.”

According to The US Sun, Frank Bruno, Tyson Fury, Liam Gallagher, and others attended Ricky Hatton’s funeral on October 10.
