If you thought the chaos of body swaps was over in the Freaky Friday franchise, with Freakier Friday, then you're far from right.

Director Nisha Ganatra recently discussed her ideas for a potential third project that will make it a threequel, and how it will probably consist of a body-swap featuring Jake, played by Chad Michael Murray.

Speaking to Screen Rant, Ganatra talked about what a potential third part for the series, called Freakiest Friday, could look like, as she said,

"Freakiest Friday... What would it be? I mean, more swaps, right? Probably a six-way swap. We'd definitely have Manny Jacinto and Chad Michael Murray switching places. We all need that!"

Although there have not been any official announcements for another addition to the franchise as of yet, Ganatra's comment is a hopeful one. It would, of course, depend on how well Freakier Friday performs in theaters. As of now, the film has garnered $3.1 million from preview screenings.

Freakier Friday released on August 8, 2025, as the latest dose of fantasy comedy magic from director Nisha Ganatra and writer Jordan Weiss.

This sequel, brought to life by Walt Disney Pictures, is the seventh ride in the beloved Freaky Friday media franchise, which started way back in 1972 thanks to Mary Rodgers’s original novel. But don’t get it twisted, this isn’t just a rerun. It’s a new spin on the classic body-swap chaos that’s somehow even freakier and funnier.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan step back into their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman, but the spotlight’s shared with fresh blood like Julia Butters, who plays Harper Coleman, Anna’s daughter and Tess’s granddaughter, if you’re keeping track.

Sophia Hammons makes her big-screen debut as Lily Davies, Anna’s soon-to-be stepdaughter, and Manny Jacinto brings charm as Eric Davies, Anna’s fiancé and Lily’s dad. Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Rosalind Chao, and Stephen Tobolowsky are all back, weaving together the old and new.

Filming kicked off in Los Angeles in June 2024 and wrapped by August, setting the stage for a July 22, 2025, premiere at the iconic El Capitan Theatre. Just a couple of weeks later, on August 8, audiences everywhere got their hands on this rollercoaster ride of laughs and heart.

Music-wise, Amie Doherty scored the film, bringing her magic after working with Ganatra on The High Note. Fans also got a treat with a revamped version of “Take Me Away” by the fictional band Pink Slip, a perfect soundtrack match for this wild family adventure.

Box office buzz expected Freakier Friday to snag between $27 and $30 million opening weekend, with $3.1 million already banked from early previews. Looks like the fans are ready to keep swapping and laughing all summer long.

Freakier Friday is now in theaters.
