Aubrey Plaza is keeping her chaotic holiday energy alive, literally. The Parks and Recreation star confessed on The Drew Barrymore Show her unconventional holiday tradition: dressing up as the Christmas witch.
While promoting Luna and the Witch Throw a Halloween Party, a children's book she co-authored with Dan Murphy, on the Oct. 10 episode of the show, Aubrey Plaza spoke about her quirky holiday ritual, saying:
"I do a thing where, on Christmas morning, I dress up like the Christmas witch, which is my other book series."
The Honey Don't actress continued:
"Basically, I have my friends sign up for slots on Christmas morning if they have kids, and I show up when they're opening their presents around 7:30 in the morning, and then I try to steal their presents, and so it adds this element of, you know, fright on Christmas morning, which kids love."
Drew Barrymore told Aubrey Plaza that she loved her books: The Legend of the Christmas Witch (2021) and The Return of the Christmas Witch (2022). As proof of Plaza taking on the role of her literary work, footage showed her scaring a kid on Christmas morning while dressed up in a dark-red witch hat and cape, sparking laughter in the studio.
But as the video shows, Aubrey Plaza commented:
"They always fight back."
At one point during her guest appearance, the Ingrid Goes West star addressed and joked about Drew Barrymore's comment on her status as the most well-known person from Delaware.
"Thank you, I will reign as queen of Delaware forever, and, unfortunately for Joe Biden, he's lost every time and he even lost to me while he was the sitting vice president, and I still beat him. I beat him every year and it tortures him inside. I'm sure it's all he thinks about at night."
Aubrey Plaza stars in new animated series Kevin
Meanwhile, Aubrey Plaza is taking her trademark deadpan into the world of animated heartbreak, this time, from a cat's point of view.
The actress will team up once again with Dan Murphy for Kevin, a Prime Video series about a cat navigating his human parents' breakup, and ultimately decides to live independently.
The show is co-created by Plaza herself and sits behind as its executive producer. She also voices the character Dana, who decides to call it quits with her boyfriend.
"It just feels like a classic show. It almost has, like, this 'Golden Girls' kind of vibe, where you get this group of cats that all live together, and then they all have their romantic shenanigans and stuff, but you always end up back at Furrever Friends, where they all live."
She shares with Today:
"There's something cozy about it, but I think it's very New York. It's got this indie-like vibe to it too. I think it will be unexpected."
