Hookers is the upcoming fishing comedy film that will be directed by Daniel Robbins. The film is dubbed as a high-concept title and is written by Jeff Venable, Edward McDonald, and Brian Loschiavo. It will be directed by Daniel Robbins, who has helmed films like the 2018 horror Pledge and 2024 comedy flick Bad Shabbos.

The film will be produced by Funny or Die and Riverside Entertainment banners. Let us find out more details that have been revealed, including its plot. Lately, comedy has seen a resurgence in Hollywood with the success of films like The Naked Gun reboot.

Daniel Robbins to direct the comedy film Hookers

Deadline has reported that Daniel Robbins has been roped in to direct a fishing comedy film called Hookers. Its story is set in a lake community and will focus on a guy who was a celebrity TV fishing figure. A powerful businessperson wants to turn their lake into a tourist destination. To stop him, the guy teams up with his son and a bunch of people.

The film was commissioned by Riverside, who later brought in Funny or Side. The production is expected to begin in the spring of 2026, and its sales and casting are currently going on. Speaking to Deadline, Robbins revealed how much he liked the script of Hookers.

“I’ve read many, many scripts over the past few years and, when I read Hookers, I immediately saw the chance to make an outrageous, crowd-pleasing comedy we haven’t seen in years. It has the big laughs, high-stakes set pieces and heart to be a seminal, generational comedy. A Dodgeball for the next generation.”

Ricardo Martinez, the CEO of Funny or Die, said:

Hookers is exactly the kind of movie we want to champion—specific enough to feel fresh and interesting, relatable enough to reach a wide audience, and just straight up laugh-out-loud funny. We couldn’t ask for a better partner than Riverside, and Daniel’s rare ability to take something outrageous and make it feel real makes him the perfect filmmaker for a film as funny and as bold as this.”

Robbins’ previous film, Bad Shabbos, premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award. It was released on December 6, 2024, and later expanded to a wider release on May 23, 2025.
