Girl Group is an upcoming film written and directed by Rebel Wilson. She is also the co-producer along with Matt Williams. Its official synopsis, as per Letterboxd, is:
A pop diva who’s been kicked out of her own group’s reunion tour and slapped with a community service court order. She seizes the chance to stage a comeback by coaching a group of misfit teen girls for a major record label audition, only to push them too far, forcing her to confront her toxic industry — and her own streak of self-destruction.
One of the most recognizable characters from HBO’s The White Lotus, Jennifer Coolidge, has joined the film’s cast.
Jennifer Coolidge joins the cast of Girl Group
Jennifer Coolidge played the role of Tanya McQuoid in the first two seasons of HBO’s television series The White Lotus, and it's considered to be a fan-favorite character. Coolidge has recently joined the cast of the upcoming film Girl Group. Besides her, singer Nicole Scherzinger will also be starring in the film directed by Rebel Wilson.
Besides the two, the film will also star Wilson herself, Randall Park, Sheridan Smith, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, Guz Khan, Jolene Blalock, Ashley Roberts, Melanie Chisholm, Shaznay Lewis, and Loren Gray. Wilson is also producing it with Matt Williams for Live Nation Entertainment, Future Artists Entertainment, and Camp Sugar Productions. Live Nation Studios will serve as its executive producer. Last year, Wilson made her directorial debut with the Australian musical film The Deb, which she also produced and wrote.
Some of her production credits include The Hustle, Isn't It Romantic, and Senior Year. Meanwhile, Girl Group will focus on a girl who has been removed from the reunion tour of her girl group. Due to her actions, she is also required to serve community service. To return to the pop scene, she decides to teach a group of teen girls for the audition of a big music record label.
Wilson started her acting career in 2003 with the Australian comedy film Fat Pizza. She then went on to star in titles like Bridesmaids, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, and Jojo Rabbit.
Coolidge, on the other hand, began her career by appearing in an episode of Seinfeld. She has also acted in films like American Pie, Legally Blonde, Zoolander, and Promising Young Woman, among others.
