Edgar Wright’s The Running Man is taking a longer stride before crossing the finish line. The Glen Powell led reimagining of Stephen King’s dystopian chase tale will now arrive on November 14, 2025, a week later than planned. Paramount’s move is less about stumbles and more about strategy, giving the film room to dominate IMAX screens and sidestep a head-to-head clash with Predator: Badlands. It will, however, face Now You See Me: Now You Don’t and Osgood Perkins' Keeper.
This new take on Stephen King’s dystopian novel, written under his Richard Bachman pseudonym, promises to lean closer to the source material than the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger version. Powell steps into the role of Ben Richards, a desperate man thrust into a deadly game show where survival is the only prize.
The cast is stacked, with Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Lee Pace, and Michael Cera joining the high-stakes chase. Filming already wrapped in the UK in March 2025, so the extra week isn’t about production delays; it’s all about strategic positioning. With Wright’s signature kinetic style and a darker, more faithful tone, The Running Man is setting itself up for a clear sprint at the box office, now with just a little more space to stretch its legs.
More details on The Running Man
The Running Man is racing toward theaters with Edgar Wright at the helm, bringing his signature kinetic style to Stephen King’s 1982 novel, originally penned under the name Richard Bachman. This isn’t a remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger cult hit. Wright promises a darker, sharper, and far more faithful vision of the source material.
Leading the charge is Glen Powell as Ben Richards, a man shoved into the ultimate televised death match. The rules are simple and cruel: survive 30 days while being hunted across the globe by professional killers, and you walk away with a jaw-dropping $1 billion.
Standing in his way are Josh Brolin’s calculating producer Dan Killian, Colman Domingo’s smooth-talking host Bobby Thompson, and Lee Pace’s relentless Hunter Evan McCone. The star-packed cast also features Jayme Lawson, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, Daniel Ezra, David Zayas, Katy O’Brian, and Karl Glusman.
Wright’s fascination with The Running Man dates back to a 2017 tweet, and Paramount finally put the project in motion in 2021. Powell even sought Schwarzenegger’s personal blessing before stepping into the role.
Buzz built early at CinemaCon 2025, where Wright, Powell, Brolin, and Domingo unveiled the first footage. The July trailer, cut to a remix of Sly and the Family Stone’s “Underdog,” got an extra push from a cheeky viral collab between Powell and influencer Ashton Hall.
The Running Man will hit theaters on November 14, 2025, in IMAX, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema.
