Paramount Pictures has dropped the first trailer for The Running Man, Edgar Wright’s bold reimagining of Stephen King’s dystopian classic, originally published under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. Glen Powell stars as Ben Richards, a blue-collar father who makes a desperate choice: enter a government-sanctioned game show where survival is the prize and death is broadcast live to millions.
Set in a totalitarian future obsessed with bloodsport and ratings, The Running Man follows contestants called “Runners,” who are hunted by assassins on national TV. Each day they stay alive, the payout grows, but so does the danger. For Ben, it’s not about fame. It’s about saving his sick daughter.
Lured into the spectacle by sleek, ruthless producer Dan Killian, played by Josh Brolin, Ben quickly becomes more than just another body on screen. His instincts and raw determination make him a crowd favorite, and a problem for the system that wants him crushed.
The trailer teases Wright’s signature style: frenetic pacing, razor-sharp editing, and a biting commentary on media addiction and class desperation. With an all-star cast and a premise that feels uncomfortably close to reality, The Running Man will hit the theaters on November 7, and it’s not just running, it’s gunning straight for the heart.
More details on The Running Man

Edgar Wright directed and co-wrote The Running Man alongside Michael Bacall, producing via Genre Films and Complete Fiction in collaboration with Simon Kinberg and Nira Park. Cinematography is by Chung Chung‑hoon, with editing by Paul Machliss.
The ensemble cast features Glen Powell in the lead role, supported by Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Jayme Lawson, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy, Katy O’Brian, Daniel Ezra, Sean Hayes, Karl Glusman, and David Zayas.
This version of The Running Man is the second time King's novel has been adapted for the screen. In 1987, Paul Michael Glaser brought life to the novel for the first time, in a film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, María Conchita Alonso, Richard Dawson, Yaphet Kotto, and Jesse Ventura. With that being said, it would certainly be interesting to see Wright's version of the story and if it gives justice to the original Stephen King novel.
Principal photography began in the UK on November 4, 2024, with key shoots in London, such as Wembley Stadium, and extensive filming in Glasgow, transforming streets like Renfrew and Blythswood into dystopian cityscapes. Filming wrapped on March 28, 2025, per Edgar Wright and confirmed by various outlets.
With a powerhouse creative team and impressive cast working across iconic UK locations, The Running Man aims to deliver a visually rich, character-driven thriller rooted in socio-political commentary, ready for its theatrical release on November 7, 2025.
