What is the plot of Good News?
The storyline takes place in 1970 with a passenger plane leaving from Tokyo to Itazuke. Several members of the Red Army Faction, who were on board, hijacked the plane. They order the plane to be pivoted to Pyongyang, but it's not possible as there are no talks between North Korea and Japan. A person known as Nobody is asked to help with the situation.
In September 2024, Netflix confirmed the film's production. Sung-hyun had earlier made a film titled Kill Boksoon, which was also backed by Netflix. In an official statement, the streamer said:
"Director Byun Sung-hyun gained recognition for his nuanced depiction of complex relationships in The Merciless (2017), which premiered in the Midnight Screenings section of the 70th Cannes Film Festival.
