As per a recent article by People, a judge has recently ruled that popular actor Haley Joel Osment has to attend AA meetings for six months due to his suspected public intoxication arrest.
The Osment was arrested in Mammoth Lakes, California, on April 08 on charges of public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance.
As per People, the actor was presented in court on Monday, June 2, where Haley Joel Osment requested a one-year-diversion. Osment was granted the diversion. As a result, Osment was ordered to attend at least three AA meetings every week for the next six months. Besides, he is also required to see a therapist and obey all laws.
On the other hand, the Mono County district attorney objected to the diversion request because of Osment's prior DUI conviction as well as racial slurs being used by the actor on a police officer at the time of his arrest. The request was overruled by the judge.
On completing the diversion, all charges will be dismissed by the court. However, if Haley Joel Osment fails to complete the diversion, the court will initiate criminal proceedings against the actor.
The next date given by the court for Osment's proceedings is January 5, 2026. On this day, the judge is going to review Osment's diversion.
As per People, Haley Joel Osment issued an apology on April 17. The actor apologized for using disgraceful language while being arrested.
"I’m absolutely horrified by my behavior. Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken up sooner. The past few months of loss and displacement have broken me down to a very low emotional place."
Haley Joel Osment continued by saying that there is no excuse for using garbage words, and he is deeply sorry for his wrongdoing.
"But that’s no excuse for using this disgusting word. From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts. What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage - I’ve let the Jewish community down and it devastates me. I don’t ask for anyone’s forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake."
