Halsey had barely caught her breath before the hospital lights replaced the stage ones. The singer shared that she was treated for a “minor medical emergency” after her show in Boston, spending hours in the ER until sunrise, but by that same evening, she was ready to perform again.

“Boston, I’m gonna be honest with ya, after the show last night I was in the ER till 6 this morning,”

She told fans on Instagram.

“I am A-Okay now and ready to rock tonight!”

The confession came just hours before she returned to MGM Music Hall, where she warned the audience,

“If I’m pacing myself, that’s why.”

Halsey, born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane in Edison, New Jersey, later took a moment to recognize the people who had helped her through the ordeal.

“Huge shout out to Mass General and Dr Kian, Dr Victoria, and my nurses Carolyn and Alicia for being the absolute best team I’ve ever met,”

She wrote, adding that the “imaging staff, transport team, and patient relations” also deserved thanks. Calling them “the absolute best,” she said she felt “so so grateful” for their care before signing off with the same energy that fuels her shows:

“LETS ROCK TONIGHT!”

Halsey didn’t reveal what triggered the medical emergency, though she has previously been open about her health struggles.

By mid-2024, Halsey’s health story had taken a revealing turn. In a post highlighted by BBC that June, the singer admitted she was “lucky to be alive” after what she described as a long struggle with illness. She didn’t list her specific diagnoses, but she hinted that lupus and leukemia were part of her medical picture.

Her Instagram upload, filled with quiet images and hospital clips, showed a softer side of the usually bold performer. “Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive,” she wrote beneath the post, a caption that also introduced her new album.

That same announcement brought news of her fifth studio record and its first single, The End. The song’s opening verse struck an intimate chord:

“Every couple of years now, the doctor says I’m sick.”

Halsey has built a reputation on raw honesty. In a short video shared with her update, she said,

“I told myself I’m giving myself two more years to be sick. When I’m 30, I’m having a rebirth and I’m not going to be sick. I’m going to look super hot and have lots of energy and get to redo my 20s in my 30s.”

Two years earlier, BBC had also covered her health concerns when she revealed she had been “hospitalized for anaphylaxis a few times.” Wearing a heart monitor, she shared that her condition had worsened since giving birth.

“My health has changed a lot since I got pregnant and gave birth,”

She wrote in 2022.

“I started getting really sick, I’ve been kind of sick most of my adult life.”

Despite that, she remained upbeat: “excited and confident” for her upcoming tour, back then. The artist had previously spoken about living with endometriosis, a chronic condition that can cause severe pain and affects one in ten women in the U.K. After visiting several specialists, she said she received a range of diagnoses.

“I’m still looking for the root cause of some of these things, it could potentially be another type of auto-immune disease, and I’ve known about auto-immune issues for most of my life, especially having endometriosis,” she admitted.

In Billboard’s March 2016 cover story, Halsey disclosed that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder during high school and had spent several weeks in a psychiatric hospital during her senior year.

“I had tried to k*ll myself,” the singer said in the interview.
“I was an adolescent; I didn’t know what I was doing. Because I was 17, I was still in a children’s ward, which was terrifying,” she added.

The artist, who would later become an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness, revisited the topic in May 2020 as part of YouTube’s Artist Spotlight Stories series for Mental Health Awareness Month. In conversation with Dr. Snehi Kapur, she reflected on the ongoing nature of mental wellness.

“Achieving mental health doesn’t happen, mental health isn’t a destination. You never arrive at mental healthy and go, ‘OK, I’m glad I got here,’” she shared.

In July of that same year, Halsey continued to speak up online, urging more empathy for people living with mental illness.

“I have dedicated my career to offering education and insight about bipolar disorder and I’m so disturbed by what I’m seeing, personal opinions about someone aside, a manic episode isnt a joke. If you can’t offer understanding or sympathy, offer your silence,” she posted.

Her remarks reinforced a message she had carried for years, that mental health conversations require honesty, care, and compassion.
