Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 28, film armorer, who was convicted in the fatal 2021 shooting involving Alec Baldwin on the sets of Rust has been released on May 23, from a New Mexico prison after completing her prison sentence.

A spokesperson for the New Mexico Department of Corrections confirmed Hannah's release.

Reed was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, for the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in March, 2024, while she was acquitted of an additional charge of evidence tampering. Before being convicted, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was indicted by a grand jury in 2023, on a felony charge of bringing a firearm into a New Mexico bar on October, 1, 2021.

In 2021, Alec Baldwin discharged a prop gun, which was loaded with a live round during the film rehearsal, killing Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was the film's armorer, and was tasked with checking each weapon on set to make sure they were safe and free of live ammunition.

She was sentenced to 18 months in prison and was held at Western New Mexico Correctional Facility in Grants, New Mexico. As per her release certificate, Hannah Gutierez-Reed is expected to report immediately to an officer in Bullhead City, Arizona. to follow some conditions set by the board, which includes electronic monitoring, following a curfew, and either getting a job or enrolling in school.

Her defensive attorneys during the trial, argued that Reed is relatively young, and emphasized "the devastating effect a felony will have on her life going forward."

"I beg you, please don't give me more time" - says Hannah Gutierrez-Reed

During the trail of the Rust shooting, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed pleaded with the judge, highlighting that she was "young and naive" when she took on the movie. She argued, that she took her job seriously, and didn't intend for Halyna Hutchins' tragic death, and pleaded for the court to not give her more time.

"Your honor, when I took on rust. I was young and naive. But I took my job seriously as I knew how to. I beg you, please, don't give me more time. The jury has found me in part at fault for this horrible tragedy, but that doesn't make a monster. That makes me human."

Ahead of her trial, defense attorneys Jason Bowles, and Todd J. Bullion in a statement said,

"Hannah is, and has always been, very emotional and sad about this tragic incident. But she did not commit involuntary manslaughter."

The defense also argued that the charges are the result of a "flawed investigation" and an "inaccurate understanding of the full facts." Despite the tragic incident on the film sets of Rust, the action film finished filming in Montana and was released in theaters on May 2, 2025.
