Harry Potter star Jessie Cave, best known for her role as Lavender Brown in the franchise, has made a surprising revelation that sheds light on her absence from fan conventions for the franchise. The actress shared a lengthy piece on her Substack account, where she went into the details of how she is now banned from attending fan conventions, ever since she launched her own OnlyFans account.
Cave insisted that her account is non-explicit, as she only "plays with hair" on her platform, while other stars have gone on to explore nudity and s*xual scenes. Talking about how it's "baffling" to her, Cave stated,
“I found out that I didn’t get booked for a Harry Potter convention recently, as I’m now doing OnlyFans. They explained it was because it’s a ‘family show and OnlyFans is affiliated with porn.’ This was baffling to me as some actors who do conventions (most actors, actually) have done TV and films in which they’ve done s*x scenes and nudity. I’m just playing with my hair!”
She then went on to acknowledge how she does not feel upset about there not being any more Harry Potter conventions for her, as she has been a part of them for the last fifteen years. Adding on how “it’s time to move on and play some new characters” she continues,
“I am not upset about the prospect of no more Harry Potter conventions. There’s going to be a new cast now and it’s a different time. Plus, I have done conventions for over 15 years and have enough photos and wizard memorabilia...The money I got from signing photos of my face was the only real money I made. I am very lucky I got to do them.”
More details about Jessie Cave's character in Harry Potter
Lavender Brown became a more prominent character in the later Harry Potter films, more particularly in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince when she became a significant side character.
She is introduced as a Gryffindor student in Harry's first year, and is almost always seen hanging out with her best friend, Parvati Patil. She is often portrayed as bubbly, excitable and a bit dramatic. Initially the role was played by Kathleen Cauley in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, followed by Jennifer Smith in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The role was ultimately recast as Jessie Cave stepped in just as the character started getting more screen time.
Most of Brown's storyline comes from her romance with Ron Weasley, whom she dated mostly through Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. She is shown as an affectionate, clingy and romantic girlfriend, showering Ron with pet names like “Won-won” and public displays of affection that leave both her peers and readers rolling their eyes.
Although Lavender's story ends tragically after the Battle of Hogwarts, her character remains one of the most significant parts of the franchise.
All the Harry Potter films are available to watch on Disney+.
