Clayface is the forthcoming film from the DCU and is based on the namesake comic book character. The body horror flick is directed by James Watkins, while Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini have written the script. Warner Bros. Pictures will be releasing it on September 11, 2026. Here is the official synopsis as per Letterboxd:
A Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay.
Tom Rhys Harries, who is playing the protagonist, recently shared an update regarding the shooting.
Tom Rhys Harries reveals Clayface shooting is complete

Recently, Tom Rhys Harris took to Instagram to share a story that he eventually deleted. The post confirmed that he has finished shooting for his upcoming film, Clayface. Harris shared a picture of himself with a team member and captioned it as "Wrap." The picture also featured a red balloon drawn on the trailer in the background, and it might be a reference to the Caped Crusader.
While there is no official confirmation about the shooting getting wrapped, Harris' now-deleted Instagram story pretty much confirms the same. He had earlier shared another story from the set, which was captioned, "CF Picture Wrap."
Clayface is produced by James Gunn, Lynn Harris, Matt Reeves and Peter Safran. It focuses on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance that would give longevity to his career. However, it leaves him disfigured. It reshapes his entire body and turns him into clay.
Tom plays the role of Matt Hagen, who eventually becomes the titular superhero. Other cast members include Naomi Ackie (as scientist Dr. Caitlin Bates), Max Minghella (a cop) and Eddie Marsan. More cast members are yet to be disclosed.
In a ComicBook interview, writer Mike Flanagan revealed that they were inspired by the two episodes called Feat of Clay from the 1990s' Batman: The Animated Series which featured the character. He said,
"I mean, that is the perfect [story]... Feat of Clay,’ Ron Perlman, to me, that’s it. That two-parter knocked me out. The short answer is that is absolutely what inspired my script. That is the world I wanted to live in. Batman: The Animated Series when I was growing up was my Batman. As much as [Michael] Keaton was my Batman, The Animated Series really was my Batman."
The film is a part of DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, which began with James Gunn's Superman that came out earlier this year. It will be released on September 11, 2026.
