Has the FBI made any arrests in the Charlie Kirk shooting? Utah governor says the agency has received over 7000 tips

Political commentator Charlie Kirk was shot dead while attending a debate at Utah Valley University on September 10.

At the moment, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Although no arrests have been made, the FBI has received more than 7000 tips regarding Kirk's shooting, as revealed by the Governor of Utah, Spencer Cox, during a press conference on September 11. He said:

"We cannot do our job without the public's help right now. The public has answered our call for action. So far, we've received more than 7,000 leads and tips."

For the unversed, Charlie Kirk rose to fame around 2012 after he founded the youth-led organization Turning Point USA. In the past years, he had been one of the biggest voices of right-wing ideologies in the US.

Kirk was on the American Comeback Tour when he was fatally shot in the neck while answering a student's question. He was later taken to the Timpanogos Regional Hospital, but was pronounced dead.

Spencer Cox shared more information on Charlie Kirk's death during the press conference. He added that a "tremendous amount of disinformation" was being spread regarding the shooting. He also stated that over 200 interviews have been conducted in the two days since the incident.

According to People Magazine, both the FBI and Utah Department of Public Safety have released new pictures of the suspected killer, who was seen wearing a black full sleeve t-shirt, black pants, along with a black hat and sunglasses. Soon after the incident took place, the FBI announced that they were offering a reward of $100,000 for any tips that would lead to the identification and eventual arrest of the shooter.

According to reports, the authorities had initially arrested an unnamed individual soon after the shooting but later released him, citing that he had no relation to the case. They had then released a statement, saying:

"The suspect is not in custody. Police are still investigating. Campus is closed for the rest of the day.”

Per the authorities, the suspected shooter was believed to be on a building 200 yards away from the stage where Charlie Kirk was delivering his speech. Apart from the pictures of the suspect, the authorities have also released video footage of the person of interest scaling down from the roof of a building after the shooting took place on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Fox News, a "high-powered bolt action rifle" believed to have been used by the suspect was also found by authorities in an area not far from the place of the shooting.
