While on vacation with girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, Pete Davidson showed a glimpse of his tattoo removal. On August 29, the former Saturday Night Live star was shirtless in new Instagram pictures, igniting a new debate over his changing feelings toward body tattooing.

Hewitt, his fiancée, posted photos of the two as they had fun at the beach, with Davidson, 31, showing off his fading tattoos on his arms, neck, and chest. The model was holding her baby bump while Davidson kissed her forehead in the photo, which was captioned:

“Coupla silly geese on vacashon🪿”

The photos shared showed the comedian's progress in getting rid of what used to be more than 200 tattoos. Numerous tattoo designs on his upper torso, such as skulls and quotes, were noticeably faded. But there were still some pieces: a shark on his chest and the word "MOMTATTOO."

Pete Davidson has been very transparent about his choice to remove the majority of his tattoos. He told Variety in April:

“I used to be a drug addict and I was a sad person, and I felt ugly and that I needed to be covered up. So I’m just removing them and starting fresh, because that’s what I think works best for me and for my brain."

Earlier this month, he went into additional detail on The Breakfast Club, acknowledging that a large number of his tattoos were impulsively done while he was in his early twenties:

"My tattoos sucked. They were all drug-fueled."

He added that his time in rehab made him reconsider his earlier tattoo choices.

Pete Davidson's tattoo removal process

Since starting laser treatments in 2020, Pete Davidson has characterized the process as costly and taxing. Last year, when Davidson spoke to Page Six, he said:

“They burn off your skin and then you’ve got to do it 10 more times. They just put me to sleep which is kind of nice but if it’s just the arm, I try to listen to stuff or talk to the nurse.”

In a separate interview with Variety, Pete Davidson revealed:

"It’s a pretty uncomfortable amount of money to disclose. I've already spent like $200K and I'm like 30 percent done. So, like, it's gonna suck."

He added:

"My arms are pretty much gone, and my hands and neck are gone. But I still have to do my torso and back."

According to Pete Davidson's estimation, it may take "another 10 years" to finish the tattoo removal process. He confirmed that he had already done 100 tattoo removals in January.

Davidson said that he would leave the Hillary Clinton tattoo on his leg.

Stories behind some of Davidson's inks

Not all of Pete Davidson's tattoos are impulsive; some have meaning, some are wholesome, and some are just funny.

Davidson's is keeping at least one sentimental piece, which is the portrait of Hillary Clinton, whom he referred to as his "favorite person," even if he has erased most of his ink. He informed the host of The Breakfast Club Power 105.1 that:

"Hillary's staying, I love Hillary. I got Hillary after she lost."

He got the tattoo in December 2017 on his right leg after Clinton lost the 2016 Presidential Elections.

Another anecdote he shared was a quote he got tattooed. He revealed this funny incident on an appearance on Hot Ones with Sean Evans:

“I’ve never admitted this because it’s so humiliating. But when I was like 20 at a comedy club, it might have been the Knitting Factory when Hannibal Buress used to run it, I did a set. I was like 19 or 20, and [Dave] Chappelle was in the corner.”

He added:

“I got off stage and he was like, ‘I watched your whole set. It was really good.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, thanks! How do you keep coming up with new stuff? I’m working on new stuff and it’s difficult. And he goes, ‘Jokes come and go, but swag is forever.’ And guess who got that tattooed on his chest?”

Chapelle's "swag" quote went on to be inked on Pete Davidson's upper left chest, but it didn't last long, as he then got it covered with a portrait of a shark:

“I covered it with Jaws because I needed something huge to black it out. It was pretty bad, dude. But he was like my idol—he still is, but…that’s so dumb. I could’ve just told people he said that to me. Also, when you see that, you think I thought of it.”

Pete Davidson is gearing up to become a father with his fiancée, Elsie Hewitt. A source close to them revealed to People that:

"He's grown up a lot, and he's so excited about this next chapter as a dad. He's more intentional about who he lets into his life now, and with Elsie, it was never about headlines or the spotlight, and that's exactly what he needs."
