Rapper and record producer Snoop Dogg appeared on the It’s Giving podcast on August 20. During the conversation with Sarah Fontenot, he shared his thoughts about the changing gender roles.
He also mentioned an anecdote about when he took his grandson to watch Lightyear, which featured an LGBTQ+ couple with a baby. Dogg said his grandson asked how two women could have kids, to which he said he didn’t have an answer. He also said:
“I'm scared to go to the movies. Like y'all throwing me in the middle of sh*t that I don't have an answer for.”
Social media users shared their reactions to the rapper’s comments, as one X user wrote:
““He was adopted” would’ve been the easiest response. his old, closeted, high a** is just dragging it. he’s been weird.”
Another user also shared similar sentiments, writing:
“As if adoption doesn’t exist. being gay isn’t an agenda being pushed onto you it’s a representation of the life around you.”
Meanwhile, a netizen reacted that Snoop Dogg does not need to explain anything, as they suggested:
“He doesn’t have to explain anything. Kids believe the tooth fairy is real for years and they turn out right.”
A social media user mentioned how children notice whatever is around, mentioning:
“kids notice everything, and sometimes it puts adults in a hard spot.”
One X user defended Snoop Dogg, sharing:
“It’s not about the content itself I’s the context the content is in… Snoop is probably like 90% of us and doesn’t care what someone does in their own life he just doesn’t want it crammed down his throat at every turn.”
Snoop Dogg shares his thoughts about being open to love and regaining masculinity
Speaking about the movie theater incident with his grandson, Snoop Dogg said it surprised him. He explained that kids at that age ask questions he doesn’t always have answers for.
When the host asked what he would tell young Black men who felt like they had to act tough or always try to look like players, he said they should open their hearts to love and affection. He went on:
“There's some real love out there that can break you down and show you how to, you know, have a tender side of what you own. Like I kept it gangster the whole way, but you still feel my sentiment. You feel my compassion. You feel my love. You feel my empathy. You feel all of that. And it doesn't make me weak.”
Snoop Dogg went on:
“People have seen me cry. People have seen me laugh. People have seen me with my wife in love out and about. And it doesn't make me weak. It makes me strong.”
When Snoop Dogg was asked how men could regain their masculinity, he explained that it came from growing up step by step. First, a person had to be a boy, then move past childish habits to become a young man, and finally a grown man. He said age alone did not make someone a man, but it is the experiences, lessons, and wisdom from life that do.
