American record producer Metro Boomin took to X on July 25 to pay his respects to Hulk Hogan, after his death on July 24.

In the tweet, Metro posted an image of the professional wrestler with the caption, "rest up hulkster".

This comes after the internet called out the wrestler for being a racist in the past. A user commented on a post noting that, "Hulkster was steaming racist bro", to which Metro responded saying,

"4sho u know I know that. I didn't agree with a lot of things he did...but as a Christian I believe in forgiveness and I don't believe that our mistakes define us completely."

More users took to the post to react to Metro Boomin's support and said,

"guys chill he just wants the wwe contract to make the themes" - a user noted
"Stay quiet on this one…u got an album coming out next week dawgy' - another user warned Metro
"For the idiots "going does he know"..this is just a fan say rip to a wrestler he probably grew up watching doesn't mean he likes him or supports him just simply paying of respect" - another user defends Metro
"Sorry Metro, but Twitter won’t allow you to feel this way." - another user noted

Was Hulk Hogan racist?

Yes, late WWE wrestler Hulk Hogan has had a history of using racial slurs. In 2015, he was removed from the WWE Hall of Fame, and his contract was suspended by WWE. This comes after his 2007 s*x tape involving him and Heather Clem, wife of his friend, Bubba the Love Sponge, went public in 2012.

In the transcript, Hulk could be heard using racist language. He was repeatedly using the N-word and made racially offensive comments about his daughter Brooke's dating life, as she was dating a Black man at the time.

Hogan faced criticism from the Black community at the time. As per People and other outlets at the time, WWE said that it was

"committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds."

Around the same time, Bay News 9 also uncovered racist comments from 2008 jailhouse phone calls between Hogan and his son Nick, who was serving time for a car crash.

Hulk Hogan could be heard using the N-word and making stereotypical remarks about race in the call. Hulk later issued a public statement to apologise, and said that it was "unacceptable" for him to use offensive language, and that there was "no excuse" for it.
