Fans are seemingly not happy with the first poster of Emerald Fennell’s movie adaptation of Wuthering Heights, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

The movie is based on the classic erotic Gothic novel of the same name, penned by Emily Brontë in 1847. The Barbie actress portrays Cathy, while the Euphoria actor takes on the role of Heathcliff. Hong Chau plays Nelly Dean, Alison Oliver plays Isabella Linton, and Shazad Latif portrays Edgar Linton.

The first poster has already made its way to X, where fans have been criticizing Fennel for her casting choices. Scores online pointed out that Heathcliffe and Catherine have both been cast "incorrectly" in a way that doesn't adhere to their descriptions in the book. Here's how one user reacted, for instance:

"HEATHCLIFF. IS. NOT. WHITE. CATHERINE. IS. NOT. BLONDE. OR. 35."

The comments didn't end there:

"Heathcliff was suppose to be romani, this casting is so upsetting," one user pointed out.
"It kinda looks like a Diary of a Wimpy Kid cover," someone else quipped.
"Thanks, I hate it," another naysayer chimed in.
"I can tell they ruined it just by looking at the cover," a fourth user echoed.

See how the rest of X is reacting:

"No. If you've read Wuthering Heights, you'd know that Cathy could never be a blond. The best adaptation was Binoche and Fiennes. Nothing will ever top that," one user pointed out.
"And we will be watching!" another fan exclaimed.
"Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Cathy and Heathcliff? We eating good in 2026," someone else wrote.
"Love the style of this poster. I’m curious to see the trailer. It’s apparently dropping later today," yet another user weighed in.

While most X users were seemingly unhappy with the casting, some others did note that the poster looks good, and that it stands a fair chance of success after all.

Everything we know about the forthcoming film adaptation of Wuthering Heights:

The Guardian has reported that the first trailer of Wuthering Heights has dropped, and it looks to be a more erotic version of the only novel ever written by Emily Brontë. Fennel, who also worked with Elordi on Saltburn, is known for her screenplay of Promising Young Woman, for which she also nabbed an Oscar.

The project paved the way for a bidding war last year, Variety has reported, right after Fennel's Satlburn fared poorly at the box office, only to become a massive hit once Amazon Prime picked it up.

Netflix reportedly offered $150m for Wuthering Heights, but Warner Bros secured the deal for $80m, as both Fennel and Robbie voiced favor towards a theatrical release. MRC studio is financing the film, and Robbie’s LuckyChap will be producing it. Warner Bros. Pictures is in charge of distributing the film in theaters across the world on February 13, 2026.
