Actress Hilarie Burton revealed recently that her guest appearance on husband Jeffery Dean Morgan’s series, The Walking Dead: Dead City, Season 2, was filmed in wake of Morgan’s father’s death.
During a recent conversation with People magazine, Burton recalled that her cameo as Morgan’s character Negan’s wife, Lucille, on the June 15 episode of The Walking Dead sequel series was difficult to shoot. She said,
“What people didn't know is that, throughout this season, Jeff's dad was dying. He had died like six days before we shot this scene. Watching this man that I love so much hold that grief and really have to focus at work and hold it together, I wouldn't cry except I just watched it… It was really, really amazing to watch the person you love most in the world be able to do that.”

Commending her husband on how he managed to act while grieving, Burton added,
“He was able to channel a lot of the grief he was feeling for his dad into this episode while not letting anyone down…We had no idea when we got the news that his dad was sick that we would have to film this scene within days of seeing him for the last time. And we definitely had no idea this episode was going to air on Father's Day. It was a lot.”
Hilarie Burton and Jeffery Dean Morgan’s son supported his grieving father
While reminiscing about how difficult it was to deal with a tragic loss while filming, Hilarie Burton shared that her and Jeffery Dean Morgan’s teenaged son, Gus supported his father on set. While speaking to People, Burton observed,
“Even when I wrapped, our son stayed with him at work and just shadowed the director and got to hang out with the camera crew. And so the balm that eases loss like that is being surrounded by the people who are still here and that we get to love on. Our son stepping up and being there for his dad at work was also a very cool turn of events.”
Gus, whose full name is Augustus Morgan, was born to the couple in 2010. Their second child, a daughter named George Virginia, was born in 2018.

Hilarie Burton and Jeffery Dean Morgan married in 2019
After nearly a decade of being together, the couple married in 2019, with their children and loved ones in attendance, according to Entertainment Weekly.
At the time, Burton took to social media to mark the occasion. While addressing media speculation around her and Morgan’s relationship status, she wrote,
“We’ve lived as husband and wife for a decade. We’ve built a family, and a farm and found our community. For years, publications have reported that we got married in 2014 or 2015 and that I’ve been married and divorced before. All untrue.”
While providing an insight into her relationship, Burton noted why she and Morgan didn’t tie the knot earlier. She added,
“But WE knew our truth. So it felt silly to try and correct anything. Here’s the God’s honest fact: From the moment I met @jeffreydeanmorgan, he was my husband. Rather than make vows right out of the gate, we lived them. For over ten years. The good times and the bad. Standing up there with our children at our sides — celebrating all that has been — was bliss.”
Hilarie Burton and Jeffrey Dean Morgan live in a 100-acre farm at Rhinebeck, New York, noted People.
