Farr posted a statement encouraging women to prioritize early screening and to talk candidly about their experiences in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.In 2021, Farr told People Magazine that she had been diagnosed with malignant breast cancer after a mammography in 2014, following the removal of a precancerous lesion in 2012. Since 2022, Farr has been in remission as a result of timely surgery and radiation treatment.“You’re going to see an awful lot of people in pink shirts and with pink pins showing their awareness and their support, and I think it is absolutely wonderful. But I think it’s time to do a little bit more, if we can", Farr said in her Instagram post.“I think it’s going to be different for everyone, but I would say it’s time to share our stories. Let’s get this out in the open and support our communities and, most importantly, get screened.”Hilary Farr made the choice to leave HGTV's Love It or List It in 2023. She told Vulture that it has been a long time coming."It was becoming boring, and I don't want to be bored," she stated. In a speech at the Top Ten Event in Canada, Farr previously alluded to the fact that she occasionally felt artistically impoverished while working on the program.Farr said in an interview with People Magazine that her prior cancer diagnosis also influenced her choice. She just concluded that life was too short to continue doing something she had outgrown."It was getting too simple... I was stuck in a rut. It's been a long time. You want to grasp for those obstacles and feel like every day is unique and exceptional," she said.
