The couple met when he was studying theatre and directing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1980. They were cast in a play called Impromptu at Versailles by Molière, as per a website dedicated to Bill Pullman.
In a 2020 interview with People Magazine, Bill discussed the secret to his long, successful marriage. The critically-acclaimed actor said:
"I think it’s putting our hands in the dirt; it’s parallel play of digging and planting. We spend a lot of time outdoors together. A lot of time at the ranch, so we enjoy those similar things. It’s helped keeping in tune with each other."
In another 2011 interview with Good Housekeeping, Bill revealed the key to his long-lasting relationship:
"Being able to share a perspective about what we want to do — and also supporting each other."
