About Carrie Fisher's demise

As per People, legendary actress Carrie Fisher died on December 2016, at 8:55 in the morning. She was 60 years old when she died. Family spokesperson Simon Hall issued a statement to the publication on behalf of Lourd.

"It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly, our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Fisher was on an 11-hour flight from London to L.A. when she suffered a cardiac arrest. She was transported to the nearest hospital, where she battled her health ailments for four days before she died.

In June 2017, reports linked Fisher's death to sleep apnea. A toxicology report also revealed that she had some drugs like cocaine, methadone, and opiates in her body at the time of her death, though it was unclear as to which of the substances contributed to her cause of death.

Lourd addressed the issue and said that her mother was battling addiction.

"She was purposefully open in all of her work about the social stigmas surrounding these diseases," said Lourd. "She talked about the shame that torments people and their families confronted by these diseases."
"I know my Mom, she’d want her death to encourage people to be open about their struggles. Seek help, fight for government funding for mental health programs. Shame and those social stigmas are the enemies of progress to solutions and ultimately a cure. Love you Momby.” Lourd told People

To the news, fans, fellow actors, and family started flooding social media with posts. A joint statement was also released by her Star Wars family, sharing a heartfelt tribute to their late 'Princess Leia.'

Even after her demise, Fisher's acting skills left an impression on the Star Wars franchise. As per People, director J.J. Abrams used some of her unseen footage in one of the episodes of Star Wars in the year 2019.

"We all just loved her." "You don’t recast that part, and you don't have her disappear." Abrams said while remembering Fisher at a 2019 Star Wars convention.

Lourd also remembered her on her 68th birth anniversary and posted a heart-warming photograph of her with her mother. She mentioned that Fisher would have been 68 years old if she were alive.
