New details are emerging about Hannah Moody's shocking demise one month ago.
The hiking influencer was found dead near a Scottsdale, Arizona, trail in May. Several outlets have reported that her cause of death has been listed as an accidental "environmental heat exposure," per a report from the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office's website.
Friends of Moody, 31, had reported her to be missing on May 21, at around 7:50 p.m. By noon of the following day, her body was discovered 600 yards away from the main trail by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Air Unit, People Magazine has reported, just off the Gateway Trailhead of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.
Hannah Moody's life and legacy explored as her friends and family continue to mourn her demise:
An official statement from the Scottsdale Police Department on May 23 revealed that officers “began search efforts on foot, with drones and assistance from a Phoenix Police Department helicopter."
"Search efforts continued for Hannah for approximately four and a half hours until around 11:30 p.m., when the search was called off for the evening," they added. “Search efforts picked back up the morning of May 22, with 20-plus officers on bicycles, on foot, with drones, and with the assistance of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office search and rescue team and air unit." The statement concluded, “Other individuals showed up and assisted with the search efforts as well.”
Hannah Moody's mother, Teri, told AZFamily:
“I hope that she didn’t suffer. I hope that she was unaware of what was happening. It was preventable, which, that’s kind of a hard pill to swallow.”
The outlet reported that temperatures were soaring at 102 degrees when Moody had gone for her hike.
Hannah Moody, a native of Northern California, was known for her faith-related content. Per the New York Post, she has been described as loyal and free-spirited. She had shifted to Scottsdale just eight months before the fatality, having previously lived in Charleston, South Carolina.
“It’s still hard to picture what happened and to figure out how she was in those last moments,” her mother further told the outlet. “I’m hoping that it wasn’t all for nothing. That if one life is saved because of Hannah, then that’s one life that’s been saved.”
Hannah Moody's brother, Joel Moody, told the Arizona Republic:
"She was somebody who really enjoyed meeting people and didn't like remaining strangers with folks. She really wanted to make sure not only that she met people, but that when she did that they felt loved."
Her friend, Megan Pasquel, added:
"She was the type of person that would go out of her way to make a stranger's day, whether it was complimenting them or buying (them) coffee. And just always having a smile on her face, always being very kind to anyone she met."
Shortly after her remains were located, Teri Moody told Arizona's Family on May 28:
"I feel like it’s not real." She also said that Hannah moody's cause of death was a "mystery" at the time. "We’re trying to piece it all together," she continued, "because we don’t know of any conditions that she had or anything like that that would have caused anything."
She did, however, insist there was no indication of foul play in Hannah Moody's untimely demise:
"We’re all assuming it was heat-related, but you know that’s inconclusive," she said. "There were no signs of foul play." She also thanked the community for its support: “The fact that there were so many people who loved and cared for her that took on that role," she said. "We’re really grateful for that." She concluded at the time, “Anytime she could climb on top of something and look out over the nature and see the sunrise or the sunset, those were her favorite things to do.”
