Bill Belichick gained international acclaim by coaching the NFL’s New England Patriots to six Super Bowl victories, with all-time great Tom Brady at the helm of those squads as quarterback. Unfortunately, the 72 year old who is now coaching the North Carolina Tar Heels football team, has been making headlines as of late due to his romance with 24 year old girlfriend Jordon Hudson, whose antics have made Bill the butt of several jokes from the media and social media users alike. This stems from their age gap and genuinely weird interactions on and off camera.
Rob Gronkowski, former NFL tight end and New England Patriot star recently appeared on Sundae Conversation with Caleb Pressley where he got roped in by a similar joke about his former coach. On the fairly popular YouTube interview show Gronkowski addressed his life post-retirement before the conversation took a turn.
“Bill’s picked up a 24-year-old.” Presley stated, to which Gronkowski, a Buffalo native replied, “The Buffalo Bills?” Pressley, simply responded, “No,” before adding, “have you met Coach Belichick's girlfriend?”
Once Gronkowski understood the gag, he couldn't help but laugh. And once he collected himself from his laughter, all he could muster was,
“He got me. How did I fall for that one?”
Rob Gronkowski speaks on former coach, media
Rob Gronkowski joined the New England Patriots in 2010 and initially retired after 9 seasons of playing on Bill’s team in 2019. Eventually he would come out of retirement and join fellow former Patriot Tom Brady on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before officially retiring for a second and final time in June 2022.
In a recent PEOPLE interview, Rob Gronkowski claimed to be “getting sick” of the speculation and overall chatter about Bill’s personal life, although he’s confident the outside noise won’t shake his former coach’s resolve. He also insinuated that if Belichick can in fact introduce a winning culture to the North Carolina Tar Heels football program, the conversations about his life off the field will likely fade.
“Bill has to produce. And I'm going to be tuning in, and I want to see him win some games. Because if he wins some games, he'll shut everyone up. And that would be fun to see, man.”
In a previous interview however, the former tight end pointed out a massive gap in the culture instilled by Bill in the NFL versus what he’s seeing in college,
"You know, and in the back of your head … you're just thinking to yourself, 'When you were on the Patriots, the whole goal was to eliminate all the distractions that can possibly happen while you're on the team.’”
Gronk, as he’s affectionately called, continued,
"And don't bring those distractions to the team and in the locker room, and we're just looking down at the program in North Carolina, and it feels like there are just distractions 24/7 down there. There's no football talk as well."
Rob Gronkowski clearly wishes well for his former coach, though he is also quick to point out there is no skirting the process in a true full circle moment between a former student and master.
