He said:"I learned so much from her working together on this album Van Lear Rose and there was times where I just had to take a pause and step outside because she was just so brilliant, I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing and hearing. I almost felt like she didn’t even realize it, you know. But she was just a genius and just brilliant at what she did and we were lucky to have her and people can learn from example the rags to riches part of it and the beautiful natural voice part of it."According to VICE, Meg White and Jack White were traveling through Memphis when they came across the sign to Loretta Lynn's famous ranch, prompting them to dedicate their 2001 album to the singer. Following this, the pair was invited to dine with her at her home, where she made them a hearty meal comprising chicken, dumplings and homemade bread. In a 2004 interview with 60 Minutes, Jack White shed some more light on their relationship. He said:"We have a really good relationship, it’s just good the way we connect to each other. It’s kind of that feeling when you meet somebody and you just kind of feel like you’ve known them forever.”Since then, the pair have collaborated on various projects, most notably Loretta Lynn's 2004 album Van Lear Rose, which was produced by White.
