How did Jenny McCarthy and Donny Wahlberg meet? Masked Singer host says she never dreamed of marrying New Kids on the Block member

Jenny McCarthy’s path to stardom and eventual marriage to pop icon Donnie Wahlberg wasn't predictable. She grew up in a working-class catholic home, and wasn't a huge fan of the band. Cupid worked his charm for McCarthy in 2012. Her love story began, when she was initially seen with Donnie Wahlberg on Watch What Happens Live. It's on the show, where sparks were first evident.

Donnie Wahlberg returned to Jenny McCarthy's life in March 2013, where he guest-starred on her VH1 series, The Jenny McCarthy Show. Romance followed quickly and within months, they were publicly dating. The couple also attended red carpet events side by side. In April 2014, Wahlberg proposed to the love of his life. And by August, the two had tied the knot. Their wedding was featured on the A&E reality series Donnie Loves Jenny.

In a report by People, the founder of Formless Beauty shared that, growing up she wasn't a huge fan of her husband's boy band.

"If I were in my late 40s, I probably would've fit into that slot of New Kid's fan, but I'm 52, going on 53, so I was too cool for that, I was really into Madonna, though. Like, dressed like her, I'd wear my shirt showing my bra strap. Absolutely loved her." shared McCarthy.

Donnie Wahlberg and his band, experienced mega success in the late 1980s. The boy band became a cultural phenomenon, laying the path for future boy bands. At a point, The New Kids on the Block, had performed back to back stadium shows. Back then, the band had dominated music charts, while their images had graced everything from dolls to cereal boxes.

Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg have been, happily married for more than a decade. And according to McCarthy, her relationship still has the spark of a new romance.

She shared her first memory of the New Kids on the Block star when she saw Donnie on TV during the height of the boy band craze.

“The first time I remember seeing Donnie was on Entertainment Tonight, and he was on his motorcycle, And I was like, 'Look at that guy trying to look so cool on his motorcycle!' It's so funny...I never thought one day I would be marrying Donnie." she shared.

Her romance hasn’t faded. In a 2023 conversation with PEOPLE, McCarthy opened up about Wahlberg’s loving gestures, where he sends her flowers every week.

“Every week, he's never missed a Monday in 10 years. He treats me like a queen. He's my everything. He still gives me butterflies. He's the love of my life.” shared the model.

The engagement between Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg was made public in a memorable moment on The View in April 2014. According to People, McCarthy surprised both the audience and her co-hosts when she suddenly flashed a 10-carat yellow sapphire engagement ring. McCarthy then walked viewers through the uniquely personal proposal orchestrated by Donnie, with the help of her son, Evan.

"This weekend, I was sitting with Donnie ... and he went into the other room, and out came Evan with a card that said 'Will,' and he handed it to me, Then Evan ran away [and] Evan came back in with a card that said 'You' ... I just started crying, and then Evan came back with a card that said 'Marry' — but spelled wrong." she recounted.

"Donnie came out with Evan, and Donnie's shirt said 'Me' with a question mark, holding the ring ... and he got down on his knee," she added.

Jenny McCarthy added that the proposal touched her heart even more, after seeing her son’s reaction once she said “yes”.

"In that moment, Evan yelled, 'I have another dad!' and it just made all of us cry," she shared.
