Jeremy Renner, known for his role as Hawkeye in the Avengers franchise, once chose to keep a major chapter of his life out of the spotlight. He kept his marriage with Canadian model Sonni Pacheco private.
The couple first crossed paths on the British Columbia set of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. While Jeremy Renner was filming alongside Tom Cruise, Pacheco worked behind the scenes as a stand-in. Their connection grew quietly, eventually leading to a private relationship.
As the romance progressed, Pacheco moved into Renner’s Los Angeles residence after becoming pregnant. The couple welcomed their daughter, Ava Berlin Renner, in March 2013. As per The Global News, Renner explained his reasons for guarding their life from public scrutiny:
“I have tried to protect my family’s privacy, my wife’s privacy. I don’t need her to get hammered with my life, privacy issues are important because I want her to go about her day without being bothered.”
Jeremy Renner’s lawyer responds to Sonni Pacheco’s claims in court filing

Back in 2019, People reported on serious allegations made against Jeremy Renner in a custody dispute involving his then-6-year-old daughter, Ava.
Court filings obtained by TMZ revealed claims from Renner’s ex-wife, Sonni Pacheco, accusing the Avengers actor of threatening to kill her. One particularly disturbing allegation stated that Jeremy Renner once placed a gun in his mouth and fired it into the ceiling while their daughter was in another room. Pacheco also alleged he engaged in drug use and left cocaine on a bathroom counter within Ava’s reach.
In response, Renner’s attorney issued a statement to People, calling the claims one-sided.
“The well-being of his daughter Ava has always been and continues to be the primary focus for Jeremy, this is a matter for the court to decide. It’s important to note the dramatizations made in Sonni’s declaration are a one-sided account made with a specific goal in mind,” the lawyer stated.
Jeremy Renner and Pacheco had married quietly in 2014. Pacheco filed for divorce later that same year, citing irreconcilable differences.
Jeremy Renner opens up about the 2019 claims made by ex-wife Sonni Pacheco

Jeremy Renner has spoken out about the damaging allegations brought up during his divorce from Sonni Pacheco, providing a rare window into how he processed that period of his life.
Speaking to The Guardian, the Avengers star addressed the accusations made in 2019, when Pacheco claimed he had threatened to kill both her and himself. Renner has long denied the allegations and described how he mentally coped with the situation.
“Whatever stress I’ve had in life I’ve tried to find a way of laughing through it, and that’s where sometimes cynicism comes out — you think, ‘I’m just going to have a laugh at this stuff,’” he said.
When prompted to clarify what “stuff” he was referencing, Renner said:
“Being accused of things you’ve not done, right? That doesn’t feel good to anybody. It certainly doesn’t feel good when you’re a celebrity and it’s known to everybody.”
Renner confirmed he was speaking directly about Pacheco’s claims, stating they weren’t true:
“No, and they happen all the time, it’s all the salaciousness that happens out there. It’s clickbait, and it hurts my feelings and it dehumanizes people.”
Despite the attention the case drew, Renner said he made a conscious effort not to let public opinion weigh on him:
“It doesn’t matter to me what people say, they’re saying it for their own reasons and not for the right reasons or the truth. And I’m used to that, because I’m a public figure. I don’t read people’s reviews, I don’t read people’s comments. I don’t care. That’s not part of my life.”
