How is Kelly Clarkson helping her kids cope after their father Brandon Blackstock’s death?

Kelly Clarkson gives the first update on her kids since their father and her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, passed away at the age of 48 in August 2025. Blackstock died after fighting a strenuous battle against cancer for three years.

In a question-and-answer segment on her Kelly Clarkson Show channel on YouTube, the singer shared an update on how her kids are coping with the loss. When asked by a fan what one thing she does every day, she shared,

"Snuggle my kids, they're 9 and 11. Kind of that special little fun stage where they can wipe their own behinds, but they're still small enough to, like, love cuddling and love snuggles. There's been a lot for our family recently, and so I have allowed my kids to sleep with me quite a bit," she continued.

She added, "It's my two dogs, my two kids and me. It's a lot. It's been really special, though, because... the conversations you have during that time are pretty cute. So that's probably my favorite time of day."

Brandon was diagnosed with melanoma and, after a three-year battle, passed away on August 7, 2025. At the time, a family representative told PEOPLE,

"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon, who was the pop star's former manager, were married for seven years before they split up in 2022. The couple shares 2 kids, a daughter, River, and a son, Remington "Remy." Brandon, who has managed country artists such as Blake Shelton, Carly Pearce, and Rascal Flatts, also had 2 children from his previous marriage, Savannah and Seth, and became a grandfather when his daughter, Savannah, gave birth in 2022.
