Artists Ashanti and Nelly and gearing up to give more insight on their relationship than ever before. The couple’s upcoming reality show, Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together, is set to arrive on Peacock on June 26 and provide an unfiltered look into the duo’s personal lives.
While they have seemingly come to find their fairy tale ending together, the pair has also noted the struggles along the way in the trailer for their upcoming show.
"I hated her.” Nelly openly admits, before Ashanti laughs and echoes the same sentiment, “I hated him”. She then continues to share, “I didn't think that we would get back together".
The couple's relationship dates all the way back to 2003, a year when both artists were also nominated for a Grammy award.

Ashanti and Nelly - relationship timeline ahead of the new series
The couple began their long journey as a part of each other’s lives in 2003. According to the Only U singer and actress,
"We were together off and on for 11 years, before the final [sic]..."
The relationship eventually ended on a bitter note in 2013, with little hope of reconciliation on the horizon. However, chance and circumstance led to them giving their romance another shot in 2023, 10 years after their initial split.
In the two years since they have rekindled their love, the couple has not only held a clandestine wedding ceremony but also welcomed their first child into the world. Kareem Kenkaide Haynes was born in 2024, and the pair affectionately address him as “KK”.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she gushed about her newborn,
“He’s such an incredibly happy baby. He smiles all the time. When he sees daddy, the vibe definitely changes.”
While the show is centred on the love shared between the couple and their newborn son, it will also touch on more difficult topics like their hot and cold past, alongside the trials and tribulations of married life and parenthood.
Both respected musicians in their own right, the couple famously collaborated on the hit record “Body on Me” alongside Akon in 2008. It was recorded for Ashanti's fourth album, The Declaration, and appeared on Nelly's fifth album Brass Knuckles as well.
“Body on Me” peaked at 42 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The music video was shot at the Red Rock Casino, Resort, & Spa in Las Vegas.
