How long have Halle Berry and Van Hunt been together? Tyrese reacts to the actress turning down her boyfriend’s marriage proposal

Halle Berry and Van Hunt have been together for five years. Recently, Tyrese Blackburn took to Instagram to react to Halle Berry turning down Hunt's proposal.

In the caption, Blackburn asked a question about the institution of marriage, saying,

"Can we ever get to a place where we feel WHOLE in a relationship and feel like you are truly in love and HAVE your PERSON without marrying them when marriage in itself has caused so much trauma and pain? Is love really about THE RING and the dress and random speeches at weddings??"

Blackburn's post comes after a June 5 episode of Today with Jenna & Friends where Hunt revealed that he had proposed to Berry but she had declined. While talking about his proposal, Hunt opened up about the actress' reaction, saying,

"So I put the proposal, and it's still on hold as you can see. It's just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her."

Hunt's comments got a response from Berry who was also present on the show, and she furnished her reason for turning down the proposal, saying,

"Well, I've been married three times. Van has been married once, and so no, we don't feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don't."

While Berry has declined Hunt's proposal at the moment, she said that out of all the people she's been married to, Hunt is "the person I should have married" and promised that a wedding would happen "soon."

Halle was married to David Justice from 1993-1997, Eric Benet from 2001-2005, and Olivier Martinez from 2013-2016.

In his recent post, Tyrese Blackburn used the example of Halle Berry turning down Van Hunt's marriage proposal, to question the institution of marriage. Tyrese, who had been married twice, had finalized his divorce from second wife, Samantha Lee in 2020. However, the two had troubles with custody issues over their daughter, Soraya, 6.

Tyrese also brought up examples from his own marriage, as he questioned the real meaning of marriage, questioning if marriage really is about "THE RING and the dress and random speeches at weddings??"

He shed light on his situation and said,

"I wanna make sure I’m being clear me and Zelie have been having a lot of conversations about marriage, divorce settling in figuring it out….."

He then went on to call Halle his "sister" and a "good friend" and added,

"If I’m being honest with you there’s no one in the world is more happy for Halle Berry than me because her GLOW is a GLOW that’s worth loving, nurturing, and protecting at all cost…. Our beloved BLACK QUEEN has found her BLACK KING!!!! I LOVE LOVE!"

Tyrese also gave a reason behind his post and mentioned that it's "very fragile and UBER sensitive" for him to have conversations about marriage.
